Tiverton Police Arrest Man For Allegedly Climbing Mt. Hope Bridge

 Tiverton Police arrested a 30-year-old Portsmouth man on a State Police warrant on Saturday after he allegedly narrated and posted a YouTube video of two other individuals climbing the Mt. Hope Bridge.

Christopher Aguiar, age 30, of 52 Greenfield Ave., Portsmouth, was charged on Saturday, June 22 at 1:56 a.m. with one count of willful trespass following a months-long investigation into a YouTube video by State Police. Aguiar allegedly narrated a video as two other white men scaled the north tower of the Mt. Hope Bridge.

On Feb. 1, the state Turnpike and Bridge Authority contacted the State Police Wickford Barracks to file trespassing complaint against the men involved in the YouTube video. The Mount Hope Bridge has signage indicating that pedestrians are  strictly prohibited from being on the bridge.  

Troopers conducted a thorough investigation into various social media websites, YouTube, Facebook, Soundclick, and Instagram which led to the  positive identification of the producer and narrator of the video as Christopher Aguiar.  

Troopers were also able to positively identify the second individual in the video who is  wanted on an affidavit and arrest warrant for willful trespass.  

On June 22, Tiverton Police stopped a car on Route 24 near Fish Road for traveling 55 mph in a marked 45 mph zone around 1 a.m. on Saturday. After making contact with the driver, Christopher Alderman, 30, of 17 Fourth St., Swansea, MA, police learned his license had been revoked in Massachusetts.

The passenger, Aguiar, was wanted by State Police, a computer check revealed.

After securing the two men, police searched the car and found a cellophane wrapping containing a single green pill lodged in the driver's sear. The pill was later determined to be Clonazepam. Alderman was charged with felony drug possession.

Alderman was later arraigned in Second Division District Court. Aguiar was turned over to State Police and held overnight at the Wickford Barracks. This morning he was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and was released on $500.00 surety bail.  He is scheduled to appear in the 2nd District Court in Newport on July 9th, 2013.
