Snow, rain and sleet are expected to make for difficult commuting on Tuesday.
Winter is delivering another icy blast today as temperatures dip below 30 degrees and heavy snow, rain and sleet will fall, making for a slippery Tuesday morning commute, warns the National Weather Service. This latest coastal storm will sweep across the region through 11 a.m. today delivery blasts of snow and rain that could cause accumulations of up to 1 inch per hour. The NWS is predicting scattered power outages across the coastal plain as this recent storm passes through.
Tiverton and Little Compton residents should prepare for power outages as strong winds and heavy snows should endure through 1 p.m. on Friday, according to the lastest winter weather advisory by the National Weather Service station in Taunton, MA. While meteorologists are now predicting just 3 to 5 inches of snow - down from 6-10 inches - from this latest snow storm, the bulk of the snow should come down Thursday evening into Friday morning and could impact commuters as well as the power grids. This time meteorologists predict Tiverton and Little Compton could see 6-10 inches of snowfall. A coastal flood advisory is in effect through 11 a.m. today, Feb. 27.
A coastal flood advisory will remain in effect through 11 a.m. today, Feb. 27, as a storm surge and large swells are expected to cause flooding in Tiverton and Little Compton's most vulnerable areas. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service station out of Taunton, MA, stated a 1.5 - 2 foot surge is expected along south and southeast facing coasts during Wednesday's 8 a.m. high tide. "A few vulnerable roads may briefly flood at the time of the morning high tide," states the advisory. "Minor erosion of exposed south and southeast facing shorelines may also occur." Will Tiverton and Little Compton see significant snowfall this weekend or will it be an inch with rain mixed in? The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather alert for the weekend as a wintry mix makes its way toward the region. But how much snow Bristol and Warren are expected to get depends on how warm the temperatures remain. Forecasts vary, but most expect just a couple inches in the area. Tiverton and Little Compton could see another couple of inches of snow this weekend.
Once again, the snow is melting. But once again, don't put the shovels away. Because once again, the weekend is bringing us more snow. A new snowstorm is headed our way for Saturday and Sunday, which could dump another 2 to 4 inches on Tiverton and Little Compton, according to WBZ Channel 7 in Boston. The local forecast calls for snow to begin Saturday afternoon, switch to a mix of rain and snow in the evening, and then return to snow overnight, according to the National Weather Service. New England may be getting more snow later this week.
Although it's early in the game, some preliminary weather models are projecting that New England will get more snow this week. First, initial projections predict that Rhode Island could get 2 to 4 inches Wednesday into Thursday as a smaller system makes its way across the Northeast. More aggressive models project 6 to 8 inches. Unfortunately, that's not all. Another major storm system, currently brewing in the Pacific Northwest, could be heading straight toward New England this weekend. Cold air from Canada is expected to plunge into the storm system and could hit the Northeast or bypass the area and head out to sea. I wish Tiverton would do a better job plowing the steep hils of Kaufman, Lepes, and Horizon. Just because we are not on the bus route does not mean that we do not have to go to work by 6 am. I have been stuck here waiting now for a plow for one hour. Maybe they will show up so we can leave. :( more ›
