I wish Tiverton would do a better job plowing the steep hils of Kaufman, Lepes, and Horizon. Just because we are not on the bus route does not mean that we do not have to go to work by 6 am. I have been stuck here waiting now for a plow for one hour. Maybe they will show up so we can leave. :(   more ›

Storm Expected To Cause Scattered Power Outages Across Coast

The NWS is predicting scattered power outages across the coastal plain as this recent storm passes through.

Tiverton and Little Compton residents should prepare for power outages as strong winds and heavy snows should endure through 1 p.m. on Friday, according to the lastest winter weather advisory by the National Weather Service station in Taunton, MA. While meteorologists are now predicting just 3 to 5 inches of snow - down from 6-10 inches - from this latest snow storm, the bulk of the snow should come down Thursday evening into Friday morning and could impact commuters as well as the power grids. National Grid announced yesterday that it has crews on the ground ready to respond in the instance of any outages in the area. "Accumulations are expected to by light," states the advisory. Tiverton-Little Compton Could See 10 Inches From Snowstorm

Meteorologists are forecasting up to 10 inches of snowfall for the area in the slow-moving snowstorm that will last through Friday.

Sping might be just aroudn the corner, but winter is packing one final punch this week with another snowstorm. This time meteorologists predict Tiverton and Little Compton could see 6-10 inches of snowfall. Southern New England will be most impacted by the heavy wet snows expected from the slow-moving coastal storm that will pass through the area beginning tonight and last through Friday, according to a winter storm watch advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Taunton, MA. NWS officials are warning residents to prepare now for the storm. Due to the wet and heavy nature of the snow, travel may become difficult, particularly late Thursday into Friday morning. Coastal Flood Advisory Issued, Rains Forecast Through

A coastal flood advisory is in effect through 11 a.m. today, Feb. 27.

A coastal flood advisory will remain in effect through 11 a.m. today, Feb. 27, as a storm surge and large swells are expected to cause flooding in Tiverton and Little Compton's most vulnerable areas. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service station out of Taunton, MA, stated a 1.5 - 2 foot surge is expected along south and southeast facing coasts during Wednesday's 8 a.m. high tide. "A few vulnerable roads may briefly flood at the time of the morning high tide," states the advisory. "Minor erosion of exposed south and southeast facing shorelines may also occur." How Much Snow Will the Tiverton-Little Compton Get?

Forecasts vary, but Tiverton and Little Compton look to get a couple inches, and it appears much of Rhode Island will be spared major snow totals.

Will Tiverton and Little Compton see significant snowfall this weekend or will it be an inch with rain mixed in? The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather alert for the weekend as a wintry mix makes its way toward the region. But how much snow Bristol and Warren are expected to get depends on how warm the temperatures remain. Forecasts vary, but most expect just a couple inches in the area. ABC6 is predicting 1-3 inches; WPRI 12 has the towns getting 1-4 inches; and NBC 10 predicts "a few inches." The National Weather Service is calling for about a half-inch.  Snow and rain are expected to begin sometime Saturday afternoon, switching back and forth between all snow, all rain and a mix through the evening. After midnight…

More Snow This Weekend, But How Much?

Tiverton and Little Compton could see another couple of inches of snow this weekend.

Once again, the snow is melting. But once again, don't put the shovels away. Because once again, the weekend is bringing us more snow. A new snowstorm is headed our way for Saturday and Sunday, which could dump another 2 to 4 inches on Tiverton and Little Compton, according to WBZ Channel 7 in Boston.  The local forecast calls for snow to begin Saturday afternoon, switch to a mix of rain and snow in the evening, and then return to snow overnight, according to the National Weather Service. It should continue snowing into Sunday afternoon, leaving up to 8 inches behind across much of Rhode Island. Snow totals escalate the farther north you go. A foot or more is expected for much of Massachusetts. What's your guess? How much will the third …

More Snow On The Way?

New England may be getting more snow later this week.

Although it's early in the game, some preliminary weather models are projecting that New England will get more snow this week. First, initial projections predict that Rhode Island could get 2 to 4 inches Wednesday into Thursday as a smaller system makes its way across the Northeast. More aggressive models project 6 to 8 inches. Unfortunately, that's not all. Another major storm system, currently brewing in the Pacific Northwest, could be heading straight toward New England this weekend. Cold air from Canada is expected to plunge into the storm system and could hit the Northeast or bypass the area and head out to sea. Earliest estimates have the storm hitting Rhode Island Sunday or Sunday night. This storm could pack more of a punch than …

Brrrrrr: Watch For Freezing Pipes, Icy Roads

Temperatures could drop into the single digits tonight – here are some tips.

Baby, it’s cold outside, and it’s going to get a lot colder.  On the roads, that can lead to icy conditions, as road salt doesn’t work as well in temperatures below 20 degrees, according to a Rhode Island public works director. It's something to keep in mind on walkways around your home, too. You might want to try calcium chloride on your walkways, which works at lower temperatures. You can pick some up at Humphrey's. Frozen pipes are another problem, especially for those of us in older houses. If you have pipes that are near exposed areas, follow the tips below. The information on freezing pipes below comes from the Red Cross: Water has a unique property in that it expands as it freezes. This expansion puts tremendous pressure on whatever…
