Tiverton Police Report 46% Increase In Break-Ins

Police arrested one Tiverton woman and are tracking more suspects believed to be responsible for the upsurge in home break-ins throughout the region.

Tiverton police arrested a local woman last week and are tracking several more who are believed to have contributed to a 46 percent spike in home break-ins over last year, according to Tiverton Police Lt. Patrick Jones. Lauren Raposo, 24, of 1750 Bulgarmarsh, Road, Tiverton was arrested on Aug. 14 at around 2 p.m. after detectives tracked her to a Karen Avenue residence where they allegedly watched her break into the home. Police reportedly apprehended Raposo as she exited the home carrying a stolen case. "A search warrant was executed for the vehicle and residence where articles were recovered connecting her with break-ins across approximately eight communities," said Jones. Rash Of Vehicle Break-Ins In Tiverton

Tiverton Police are warning residents to lock up their cars after a rash of break-ins this summer.

At least 21 vehicle break-ins, costing Tiverton residents thousands in lost property have been reported since June 1, according to police. According to Lt. Patrick Jones, the majority of the thefts ocurred at night and in cars that were left unlocked. "We want to remind people to lock the doors of their vehicles, remove any valuables, and report any suspicious activity," said Jones, public information officer with Tiverton Police. Car owners have reported items from GPS units to Ipods, digital cameras and computer tablets missing. Police arrested a 23-year-old Carver, MA man on Saturday, July 14 at 7:07 p.m. after stopping the car he was driving because he was not wearing a safety belt. Every now and then we forget to lock our cars, and lo and behold, we get in them to realize someone had rifled through the glove boxes. I had a 12V - 110V adapter stolen, that was about it. Interesting that the coins in the cup holders were never bothered.   more ›
