Noise Charges Dropped Against Tom's Market

The market corrected the problem.

TIVERTON—The town dismissed charges against Tom's Market for violating Tiverton's noise ordinance on Tuesday afternoon, citing the store's efforts to minimize the sounds from its cooling fans. The market, which opened its 492 Main Rd. location on March 30, has been battling the excessive noise emitted by its cooling compressors since before it even opened to the public. The fan system in the rear of the market sits just a few yards away from residential homes. Former Town Council President Donald Bollin, an abutter who lives at 25 Russel Dr., filed two complaints with Tiverton Police on March 21 and 30 and complained once more to the store on March 28, according to reports from Jeanne Scott, assistant town solicitor. Following the …

Former Tiverton Council President Files Noise Complaint Against Tom's Market

The following report was supplied by the Tiverton Police Department.

An abutting neighbor to the newly opened Tom's Market at 492 Main Road recently filed an excessive noise complaint with Tiverton police. Former Tiverton Town Council President Donald Bollin, of 25 Russel Drive, filed the complaint on April 3 at 10:25 a.m. A municipal court trial date has been set for Tuesday, June 5. According to a report filed by Cpl. Daniel Raymond, Bollin claimed the noise from the grocery store's cooling fans was too high, and said the store should be cited daily for the nuisance. Bollin added that he was informed the owner, Thomas DeAngelis, was working to fix the problem. Raymond took noise readings that day that generated approximately 69 decibels. Raymond returned to the grocery store on April 17, a hot day in the …

Austin if you or I called with the same complaint the police would not even come. Mr. Bollin is in violation of many parts of the town's zoning ordinance but that is OK. Special treatment for an insider.... I can't wait to atend a Sing Out Against Hunger event at Tom's Market. Mr. Bollin is a poor sport for causing a scene inside this new business. Mr. Bollin when on the council did not care …   more ›

Sign Goes Up for Tiverton Tom's Market

Applications have been pouring in.

A "coming soon" sign for Tom's Market at 492 Main Road in Tiverton appeared on the roadside on Friday. The grocer, with stores in Coventry and Warren, received licensing approval from the Tiverton Town Council in August. According to the owners, the Tiverton store will be just under 9,000 square feet in the former space of the CVS Pharmacy next to Dunkin Donuts. An electrical permit is posted on the window of the space for cooling systems and other equipment. Reached on Friday, Glenn Place, co-owner, said they have already received well over 50 applications and are currently doing interior work in the space. The store will have prepared foods, a full service grocery and will sell local produce when possible.

Tiverton Council Approves License For New Grocery Store

Tom's Market, with locations in Coventry and Warren, could open its third location in Tiverton by the fall.

Soon enough, Tiverton residents may not have to trek to Clements' Market in Portsmouth, Lees Market in Westport or to one of the large grocery stores sprawled in southern Fall River to get their groceries. In a 6-0 vote Tuesday night, the Town Council approved a victualling and holiday license for Thomas DeAngelis to operate Tom’s Market at 492 Main Road, which, if all remaining permitting gets approved, could be slated to open in November. Councilor Ed Roderick was absent from the meeting. Tom’s Market's original location is in Coventry. It opened its second store in Warren in 2009, and in Tiverton is slated to operate in just under 9,000 square feet in the former space of the CVS Pharmacy next to Dunkin Donuts. According to the owners, …

This is wonderful news!! I had hoped a Trader Joe's would take over the old CVS building (and even contacted them about it at one point), but a local proprietor is even better! I have shopped their Warren location from time to time, and found the selection, quality, and prices to be good. I hope the same will hold true here in Tiverton, especially with regard to the cost of staples such as meats…   more ›
