Tiverton Council to Consider 62-Acre Development Proposal Tonight

Town officials will take a first look at what could be in store for north Tiverton under a 62-acre development proposal.

  Developers have fingered 62 acres in north Tiverton as the future site of sprawling commercial corridor of hotels, offices, restaurants and retail shops. On Monday night town officials will take an initial look at what such large scale development would mean for the area. The Town Council will hold a joint meeting with the Planning Board on Monday, April 29, at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. Situated just off of Route 24 and bordered by Fish, Main and Souza roads, the 18-building project would be known as 'Tiverton Crossings.' Consisting mainly of three and four-story buildings, the project would develop hundreds of thousands of square feet dedicated to commercial ventures. Tiverton Seeks Public Input On Developing Commercial Areas At Workshop Tonight

The Tiverton Planning Board is hosting a public workshop on extending the Main Road and Bliss Four Corners commercial districts tonight at 6 p.m.

In an effort to encourage business in Tiverton, the town Planning Department is seeking public input on the expansion of two commercial zoning districts in town. The public workshop will being tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall, 343 Highland Road. Residents are being asked for input on the expansion and draft changes to the town zoning code regarding the Main Road and Bliss Four Corners commercial districts. Planning Board Administrative Officer Kate Michaud stated intent of the workshop is to inspire revisions that would allow greater flexibility in boundaries and uses of the commercial zoning districts, reports The Sakonnet Times. What is this love affair that the DOT has with roundabouts while other states are banning them because they are dangerious RIDOT wants to put them at every intersection. They wanted to put three in portsmouth and the people fought it they wanted to put several in Middletown and they fought them now Tiverton. POLL: What would you do with the Tiverton Industrial Park?

The town is moving forward with ideas to develop the industrial park off of Fish Road. What do you think is the best business move for Tiverton?

  The Tiverton Industrial Park could add big business dollars to the property tax rolls if the town chooses to invest millions in the property. Is it worth it? During Monday night's Tiverton Town Council meeting Marcel Valois of the Economic Development Foundation discussed the town's options in developing the 177-acre industrial park that sits between Route 24 and Fish Road. Ranging from zero to $9 million dollars, planning is in its infant stages, but the Valois said the town should choose a path in order to start securing grants this year. He said the return on the investment for the project could be in excess of 10 years. We have had several opportunities to sell the whole park over the years, and the Town Councils at the time turned it down. We need to pay more attention who we elect in this town.
