Cicilline, Langevin, Whitehouse win Re-Election

Rhode Island voters favor Democrats in election.

It was a good night for Democrats Tuesday in Rhode Island. In Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District David Cicilline was able to win a second term against a tough race fought against Republican Brendan Doherty. The former head of the Rhode Island State Police strongly criticized Cicilline during the course of the campaign over his final leadership of the city of Providence when he was mayor for eight before heading to Washington two years ago. In the 2nd Congressional District James Langevin was able to win a seventh term over Republican Michael Riley. Riley reportedly lent his campaign more than $600,000. Langevin cited as accomplishments his work to maintain submarine production at Electric Boat and efforts to strengthen job training …

Sen. Whitehouse's Son Fined $250, Community Service and Classes for DUI

The 19 year-old pleaded no contest to the DUI charge

Alexander Whitehouse, the son of U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse pleaded no contest Friday morning to a charge of driving under the influence, reported the Providence Journal today. The 19 year-old Newport resident was arrrested in Middletown early Wednesday morning after a witness reported he was driving erratically and appeared to be intoxicated.  Whitehouse was fined $250, ordered 30 hours of community service and was ordered to attend a school for drunk driving, the article reported.  Sen. Whitehouse and his wife Sandra attended the hearing, held at the Rhode Island District Court. The Senator reportedly said that his son, a recent graduate of St. George's School, took responsibility for his actions.

Senator Whitehouse's Son Arrested on DUI Charge

The following arrest was reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Alexander Whitehouse of Newport, the 19-year-old son of U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, was arrested early this morning on charges of driving under the influence (DUI).  His passenger, 18-year-old Robert Bauer of Portsmouth, was also arrested for alleged possession of marijuana. Police said around 1:25 a.m., a witness called the Middletown Police to report a car that was operating in an erratic manner at the intersection of Green End Avenue and Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown.  The witness said the passenger was holding a beer bottle and both individuals in the car appeared to be intoxicated. Former State Rep Quits As Campaign Spokesman

John Loughlin II has stepped down as spokesman for Barry Hinckley's campaign.

Former State Rep. John Loughlin II has stepped down as campaign spokesman after releasing a false statement against Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, reports The Providence Journal.  Loughlin, of Tiverton, was serving as spokesman for Republican Barry Hinckley's Senate campaign. Both Hinckley and Loughlin agreed the spokesman should step down, reports The Journal.  A former Portsmouth and Tiverton Dist. 71 state representative, Loughlin ended his bid for Congress this past January. Loughlin was running for the First Congressional District seat, which is currently held by Rep. David Cicilline.
