Hundreds Hoping For Work at Tiverton Tom's Market

The market, slated to open later this month in Tiverton, held a recruitment fair Tuesday. It continues today.

People of all ages lined up outside the new Tom's Market in Tiverton Tuesday for the first day of a recruitment fair. The line stretched behind the Dunkin' Donuts next door. The fair continues today at 492 Main Road from 4 to 6 p.m. Almost 350 people showed up Tuesday to apply for one of 40 positions expected to be filled.  Reached late Tuesday, co-owner Glenn Place said they've already culled through the first round of applicants, will take the second round Wednesday and make phone calls by the weekend. New hires will begin training as soon as next week. "We move fast and furious," he said, adding that he spoke with a lot of good people, a good mix of entry level and experienced applicants. Tom's Market to Hire 40 for Tiverton Store

It's set to open on March 27, with entry-level and highly experienced jobs available.

The following is from a press release issued by the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training: Tom's Market, in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training's Business Workforce Center, plans to hire up to 40 people to staff its newest market opening later this month. A recruitment fair will be held at the new location, 492 Main Road, Tiverton, on Tuesday, March 13, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday, March 14, from 4 to 6 p.m. Jobs are available both for highly experienced individuals and for those seeking entry-level opportunities. Positions that require prior experience include meat cutters, production cooks, a grocery manager and a produce manager. Cashiers and deli service positions are also available. …
