A House resolution was recently passed to honor members of the Portsmouth and Tiverton Fire Departments, who rescued a New Hampshire man after his boat capsized during a hail storm.
"It's never a good idea to capsize your boat in treacherous waters during a hail storm, but if you do find yourself in the frigid water ... then landing in the Sakonnet River near East Power Street in Portsmouth might just prove to be the safest place," according to a recently passed Rhode Island House of Representatives resolution. Rep. Daniel P. Reilly read the resolution Monday evening at the Portsmouth Town Council meeting. The resolution honors the Portsmouth and Tiverton fire departments, which rescued Kenneth Grinnell of Manchester, NH, after his boat capsized on June 9. "After fierce winds overturned his daysailer, Kenneth Grinnell of Manchester, New Hampshire, clung to the hull of his small craft, well off-shore in the Sakonnet …

Portsmouth's skies were nearly pitch black as of 6:20 p.m. It had begun to rain. Loud cracks of thunder and bright, sideway streaks of lightning were heard and seen overhead. "It was right in the height of the storm ... The lives of the firefighters were definitely at risk," Lynch said. At 6:25 p.m., the Portsmouth Fire Department received a call reporting an overturned sailboat on the Sakonnet River. Portsmouth fire crews launched their rescue boat into the dark water from the Stone Bridge. At the same time, Tiverton rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard …
