The Newport Jazz Festival announced recently that Natalie Cole will be the opening act for this year's festival, along with the Bill Charlap Trio with special guest Freddy Cole. The jazz festival begins on Friday, Aug. 2 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. More than 25 acts are scheduled to perform at Fort Adams State Park on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3-4. When it comes to the Newport Folk Festival, it pays to plan ahead. Despite expanding to a three-day schedule, it seems folk fans just can’t get enough. Five months before the event, all tickets except for Friday passes have sold out. Yes, that means that all early bird, three-day, two-day, and Saturday passes have been snatched up. The Newport Folk Festival is one of Rhode Island’s most anticipated events of the year with thousands of music-lovers trekking out to Fort Adams to get their folk on. The weekend shows have been sold out since April, but tickets for tonight’s Wilco show are currently still available, and can be purchased here.
