Little Compton Police: Unlicensed, Assault and a Scam

No License to Drive Jairo-Adonias Mota-Ramos, 21, of Providence, was arrested on Sept. 26 at 3:37 p.m. and charged with driving without a license. After a computer check, police learned he did not have a license to drive. He was arrested and returned to the station for processing. It was at Little Compton Police Headquarters, officers learned he was wanted by ICE on a detainerfor deportation. He was held and later released to Bristol County Sheriff’s custody. Domestic Assault Charge John F. Ingalls, 53, of 288 Long Highway, Little Compton, was arrested on Sept. 30 at 8:31 p.m. and charged with domestic assault. UPDATE: Two Kayakers Rescued From Sakonnet River With Minor Injuries

Two kayakers were treated for non-life threatening injuries after being rescued from the Sakonnet River near the Little Compton shore on Monday night.

Two kayakers were treated for non-life threatening injuries after being rescued from the Sakonnet River when they flipped their kayak on Monday night. According to Fire Chief Richard Petrin, the male victims, 21 and 26, both of Fall River, MA, were in the water for about an hour before being rescued. The pair was transported by Little Compton Fire Rescue to St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River, MA where they were treated for exhaustion minor hypothermia. "People on shore heard screams for help and alerted us to the emergency," said Petrin.  Little Compton Police received an emergency call at 7:51 p.m. from a Bailey's Ledge Road resident who reported hearing screams coming from the waters of the Sakonnet River near their home. Two Rescued From Sakonnet River, Injuries Unknown

Two people were rescued from the water just off of Little Compton's shores around 8 p.m. tonight.

Two people were rescued from the waters off of Little Compton's shore shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday and their injuries are still unknown, according to Little Compton Police Chief Sidney Wordell. Police received an emergency call at 7:51 p.m. from a Little Compton resident who reportedly heard screams coming from the waters of the Sakonnet River. Emergency personnel were on scene and in the water within 20 minutes. According to Wordell the two victims had already been pulled from the water by a private citizen when Marine 1, the town's fire rescue boat, arrived. The victims were rescued just past the breakwater. At least one person is being transported to the hospital, but the extent of injuries to both victims is unknown at this point, …

Little Compton Police: 10 Cars Broken Into On Wild Cherry and Pleasant View Drives

Rash of Car Thefts At least 10 cars were broken into sometime between 9 p.m. on Sept. 3 and 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 4. The cars broken into were all on either Wild Cherry Drive and Pleasant View Drive. According to the reports, the vehicles were rummaged through and various items were taken from some of the vehicles including an Ipod, a GPS, sunglasses, a wallet and a flashlight. Domestic Assault Charge John Babbitt, 57, of 81 Amy Hart Path, Little Compton, was arrested on Sept. 8 at 5:16 p.m. and charged with domestic simple assault. According to reports, the Little Comptong Police arrested Babbitt after he was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend. Little Compton Police: Suspended Licenses and Warrants

Suspended License Carlos Minueza, 48, of 743 Franklin Ave., Revere, MA, was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 30 at 7:37 p.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license. Little Compton Police arrested Minueza after stopping his vehicle for a laned roadway violation. Wanted On Warrant Jennifer Granthan, 34, 16 North Mullin Hill Road, Westport, MA, was arrested on Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:39 p.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license. Police stopped Granthan on for speeding when a subsequent computer check found her license was suspended and that she was wanted by district court for failure to appear for a payment review.

Beaches Reopen As 'Jaws' Scene Ends

A great white shark washed up on shore over the weekend.

Gooswing Beach and South Shore Beach are open, Little Compton Police confirmed, after a scene from "Jaws" broke out over the weekend. Police closed both beaches after a great white shark washed up on the beach, just across the town line in Westport, MA, Saturday. Gary Severa says he was out fishing about an hour before dawn when he spotted the animal from a distance, at first mistaking it for driftwood, wpri.com reported. As he got closer to it, he realized it was a shark. "It was actually a little scary to look at," he said. Mystic Aquarium representatives identified it as a great white, and worked with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution to remove the giant fish, police said.

Local Officers Ask Bikers to Ride for the Fallen

A motorcycle ride through Portsmouth will help raise money for fallen police officers. Civilians and officers are encouraged to participate in the event on Sept. 9.

On Sept. 9, for the second year in a row, two Aquidneck Island police officers will bring a national event to a local level.   Every May, thousands of police officers sweat through the 300-mile, four day, Police Unity Tour, which is a bicycle ride from Florham Park, N.J. to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.   The event honors police officers who fell in the line of duty. Although that ride is only open to police officers, Lt. Mike Faria of the Middletown Police Department and Officer Joe Carroll of Newport, have organized a motorcycle ride that joins civilians and officers together, to raise awareness and money for the cause right here in Rhode Island. “Everyone is welcome,” said Faria. Tiverton Police Report 46% Increase In Break-Ins

Police arrested one Tiverton woman and are tracking more suspects believed to be responsible for the upsurge in home break-ins throughout the region.

Tiverton police arrested a local woman last week and are tracking several more who are believed to have contributed to a 46 percent spike in home break-ins over last year, according to Tiverton Police Lt. Patrick Jones. Lauren Raposo, 24, of 1750 Bulgarmarsh, Road, Tiverton was arrested on Aug. 14 at around 2 p.m. after detectives tracked her to a Karen Avenue residence where they allegedly watched her break into the home. Police reportedly apprehended Raposo as she exited the home carrying a stolen case. "A search warrant was executed for the vehicle and residence where articles were recovered connecting her with break-ins across approximately eight communities," said Jones. Arrested on Warrant James Mataronas, of 287 State Ave., Tiverton, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 7:35 p.m. on a bench warrant for failure to appear in district court. Police found the warrant during a computer check after stopping Mataronas for not wearing his seat belt. Graffiti Reported A Little Compton resident reported that someone spray painted '666' on a telephone police at the corner of Church Road and Colebrook Road. Police have no suspects at this time.

Little Compton Police: Hit And Run, A Warrant and A Stolen Cooler

Cyclist Hit And Run A bicyclist reported to the Little Compton Police Department on Wesnesday, July 25 at 6:55 p.m. that a car hit hit as it was  turning onto Colebrook Road from Long Highway. The cyclist was not injured, but the bicycle was damaged. The driver of the car did not stop and was not identified. A description of the car was also not available. Police are investigating the matter.
