Two kayakers were treated for non-life threatening injuries after being rescued from the Sakonnet River when they flipped their kayak on Monday night. According to Fire Chief Richard Petrin, the male victims, 21 and 26, both of Fall River, MA, were in the water for about an hour before being rescued. The pair was transported by Little Compton Fire Rescue to St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River, MA where they were treated for exhaustion minor hypothermia. "People on shore heard screams for help and alerted us to the emergency," said Petrin. Two people were rescued from the waters off of Little Compton's shore shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday and their injuries are still unknown, according to Little Compton Police Chief Sidney Wordell. Police received an emergency call at 7:51 p.m. from a Little Compton resident who reportedly heard screams coming from the waters of the Sakonnet River. Emergency personnel were on scene and in the water within 20 minutes. According to Wordell the two victims had already been pulled from the water by a private citizen when Marine 1, the town's fire rescue boat, arrived. Little Compton's recently purchased Marine 1 made its first water rescue on Tuesday.
Little Compton's Marine 1 rescue vessel pulled two uninjured men from the waters near South Shore Beach on Tuesday after a catamaran overturned, according to authorities. Fire Chief Richard Petrin said two men were rescued from the waters after the ship they were sailing began to sink. A 9-1-1 emergency call from a South Shore Beach patron alerted authorities to the emergency, he said. The Little Compton Fire Department along with The Narragansett Bay Marine Taskforce were dispatched to the area of South Shore Beach for a catamaran that had overturned with two people in the water at around 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday.
