Little Compton To Hold Meeting On School Safety On Wednesday

Little Compton school administrators will meet with parents on Wednesday to discuss the current state and future plans for safety as students transition to modular classrooms in January.

Little Compton school administrators will hold an informational meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m. for parents concerned with school building safety procedures. In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, CT, Supt. Kathryn Crowley is working with Little Compton public safety personnel to ensure continued safety as students and faculty transfer into temporary classroom units during renovations at the Wilbur-McMahon School. Classes are expected to move into the temporary units the last week of January and will likely remain there through June. Little Compton Learns School Construction State Aid At Standstill

The Little Compton School Committee heard Wednesday that the Rhode Island Department of Education has been instructed not to release any more school construction aid for the foreseeable future.

The Wilbur-McMahon School renovation project hangs in the balance. At Wednesday night’s School Committee meeting, Little Compton Superintendent Kathryn Crowley revealed that the Rhode Island Department of Education is halting the release of any school building construction aid for the indefinite future, based on some communication she received earlier in the day. Crowley said she was informed that the agenda for Thursday’s Board of Regents meeting did not contain Little Compton and its bid for state reimbursement to its $18.8 million renovation project. “The chairs of the House and Senate finance committees are putting a moratorium on building aid for a period of time,” she said, adding that Rep.
