Stolen Holsteins Returned to Tiverton Farm [VIDEO]

High View Farm owner Arthur Smith said the dispute over debt with Ledyard Lewis remains "between them."

High View Farm owner Arthur Smith looked at 12 tired cows back in their barn and still could not believe the trip they've had in the week's time. The Tiverton Holstein heist that's gained national attention may have came to a close on Thursday, with the cattle deemed safe to return home. George Krivda, spokesman for the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, said that a representative returned to the Beriah-Lewis Farm in North Stonington, CT, early Thursday morning to say the tests conducted on the stolen cows came back negative, and were healthy to go back to Rhode Island. Farmers Dispute Number of Stolen Tiverton Cattle

With the Holsteins quarantined on the North Stonington, CT farm, the farmer charged in the cattle theft claims only 12 cows were stolen.

Connecticut officials say they're trying to determine for sure exactly how many cows were stolen from a Tiverton farm and brought to North Stonington, CT, last weekend.  Connecticut Department of Agriculture Spokesman George Krivda said Tuesday morning it's their understanding that Ledyard E. Lewis, of 273 Boom Bridge Road (Beriah-Lewis Farm), North Stonington, admitted to taking 12 cows, but Arthur Lewis, owner of High View Farm, 3634 Main Road, Tiverton, claims 18 were stolen. Lewis also claims to police that he acted alone, stating he committed the theft because Smith owed him money. An additional 14 cows have "come into the picture," Krivda noted. Tiverton Farm Reports At Least 18 Stolen Cows

High View Farm in Tiverton reports that at least 18 Holsteins were discovered missing from their barn on Wednesday. It's currently under investigation by the Tiverton police.
