VIDEO: Evelyn's Drive-In Enters 40th Year of Business

The seafood destination enters its first weekend of the new season. Patch went into Evelyn's kitchen to see the fried clams and lobster rolls up close.

When seafood enthusiasts from all over the world visit the Ocean State, Tiverton's Evelyn's Drive-In is a top destination, overlooking the tranquil waters of Nanaquaket Pond. They enter their 40th year of business, going into the first weekend of the new season. Owners Jane and Dom Bitto have managed the business for 26 of those years, buying it on July 4, 1985 from founder Evelyn Dupont when she moved to Florida. "We've been blessed," said Jane, citing all the media attention they've received over the years, including a visit from the Food Network. "It's been good for us. People always get excited to come back here." The restaurant has a couple of well-trusted vendors, Jane said. They get their fish from Bridgeport Seafood up the road and…

Evelyn's Prepares to Open For New Season in Tiverton

The popular seafood spot, noted for their famous fried clams, opens on April 9.

The warming temperatures means a lot to residents living near the coast, especially the seafood enthusiasts. Evelyn's Drive-In, at 2335 Main Road, announced it will be opening for the season on Monday, April 9. They will be open every day from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Food Network's Guy Fieri featured Evelyn's a few years ago on the show "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives," highlighting their famous fried clams. See what users said on our Facebook Page last week about the announcement. Renee Cwiek wooohooo! clamcakes! Sharon Ouellette I miss the original Evelyns when everyone would head out for breakfast, met a lot of interesting folks back in the day, from local farmers to fishermen. Thats the Evelyns I grew up with. Why open so late? Sheila …

The fish is great, but this seasonal schedule is ridiculous. It's a shame they are not more tied into Tiverton beyond the tourist trade. They closed in September last year! What the heck? We have been going to Quito's in Bristol instead. Quito's is cheaper and they only closed for a few weeks in January. BTW: Guy Fieri is not a draw but a distraction. You can take down his poster now.   more ›

Singing Out Against Hunger Entertains And Raises Awareness [VIDEO]

Musicians gather together to raise money for local food pantries.

Musicians and vocalists showcased their talents last weekend for the four-day benefit Singing Out Against Hunger. Over 40 acts performed over four days, Sept. 15 through Sept. 18 at two well-known Tiverton locations, Coasal Roasters and Evelyn’s Drive-In. In its ninth year, the Singing Out Against Hunger benefit’s mission is to raise money and collect food to support the food pantries at the East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP). Over $76,000 has been raised since the event began and that money goes directly to the communities of Little Compton, Tiverton, Portsmouth, Middletown and Newport to which the program serves. This year, EBCAP officials expect to receive enough donations to fill the Tiverton Food Pantry and assist the Little …

Escape and Sing Out Against Hunger

Sometimes following your heart can help more than just yourself. Jane Bitto found a way to follow her passion while helping her community.

It all started with a class. Jane Bitto, co-owner of Evelyn’s Drive-In, took a course titled Self Expression in Leadership. One of her assignments was to create a plan to “do anything you want to do to help the community”. Jane expressed a love of music and sharing it with the community, so it only seemed natural that her project would entail music. With inspiration from her class assignment, Jane thought of Sing Out Against Hunger (SOAH). SOAH is a musical fundraising event to support local food pantries. The first event took place in 2003. Jane said each year it has continued to grow. This year they have 35 performances and added an extra day.  Some notable acts are Pumpkin Head Ted, Red Eye Flight, The Kim Lamothe Tree-Oh, Christopher …
