Once Arrested Rep Fails to Collect Enough Names to Appear on Ballot

The incumbent Rep. Daniel Gordon failed to submit enough qualifying signatures by Friday's deadline.

The state representative, who was arrested earlier this year on an outstanding Massachusetts warrant, failed to collect enough signatures to appear on the November election ballot, reported The Providence Journal on Friday.  Incumbent state Rep. Dan Gordon (Dist. 71, Little Compton, Portsmouth and Tiverton) submitted 61 names to Portsmouth Town Hall on Friday; however, only 28 of the names were accepted by the Board of Canvassers, reports The Providence Journal. Gordon was required to submit 50 signatures by the Friday deadline.  Gordon, who announced he was running for a second term, may still run as a write-in candidate, but his name will not appear on the November ballot.  His opponent, retired Portsmouth police officer Dennis Canario, …

Once Arrested Rep to face Police Officer in District 71 Race

Candidates for the House District 71 seats began to file declaration papers this week.

The state representative, who was arrested earlier this year on an outstanding Massachusetts warrant, will run against a retired policeman for his seat.  Incumbent state Rep. Dan Gordon (Dist. 71, Little Compton, Portsmouth and Tiverton) will run for a second term in office, according to his declaration papers filed at Portsmouth Town Hall this week.  Gordon, who is running as a Libertarian, became the center of a widespread media inquiry after his September 2011 arrest as a fugitive from justice in Massachusetts. Gordon, who was also expelled from the House GOP Caucus, was wanted for failure to appear on an eluding charge and other motor vehicle violations. Rep. Dan Gordon Blasts Proposal To Place Tolls on Mount Hope Bridge

Rep. Dan Gordon says he will reject any legislation to collect tolls off the Mount Hope Bridge.

The following is from a press release issued by Rep. Dan Gordon (Dist. 71-Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton) on Wednesday.  This morning, the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority in a vote of 2-1, agreed to raise the cost of crossing the Pell Newport Bridge from $4 to $5, effective as of July 1.  Also, most notably, the resolution passed by the authority proposes to set a toll rate on the Mount Hope Bridge and refers to a proposal by Governor Lincoln Chafee to toll the new Sakonnet River Bridge.   "I am adamantly opposed to the entire resolution," wrote Rep. Rep. Dan Gordon Plans to Pen Memoir

Rep. Dan Gordon tells the Associated Press he plans to write a book.

Embattled Rep. Dan Gordon says he's writing an autobiography, according to the Associated Press.  There are no plans to publish the book, Gordon says in the article. Gordon also says he will not step down and plans to run for a second term.  The freshmen representative's past criminal and military records became the center of a widespread media inquiry after his arrest in September. Tiverton Citizens for Change request that Rep. Dan Gordon honor his word to resign if asked by his constituents.

Judge Dismisses Suspended License Charge Against Rep. Dan Gordon

The misdemeanor driving charge was dropped Tuesday in Second District Court, WPRO reports.

A District Court judge dismissed the misdemeanor, driving on a suspended license charge against Rep. Dan Gordon Tuesday morning in Second District Court, according to WPRO News Radio. Gordon (Dist. 71, Portsmouth, Tiverton and Little Compton) was arrested on Friday, Sept. 16, as a fugitive from justice on a Massachusetts warrant for failure to appear on an eluding charge and other motor vehicle violations, according to the State Police report. The arrest stemmed from an investigation into Gordon's visit to the State Police Portsmouth barracks on Sept. 14, when the representative filed a "cyberstalking" complaint. According to the Associated Press, Rep. Dan Gordon reports that a rally will be held Saturday at the State House, calling for Gov. Lincoln Chafee's resignation.

Embattled Rep. Dan Gordon (Dist. 71, Portsmouth, Little Compton and Tiverton) is once again calling for Gov. Lincoln Chafee to step down, this time over in-state tuition rates for illegal immigrants.  According to The Associated Press, the freshman representative reports that a rally will be held this Saturday on the State House lawn. Rep. Dan Gordon responded to Gov. Lincoln Chafee's call to resign on Twitter late Wednesday, stating Chafee should be the one to "step down."

Dan Gordon took to the online social networking site Twitter late Wednesday to respond to the governor's calls to step down.  Gordon (Dist. 71, Portsmouth, Tiverton and Little Compton) was arrested on Friday, Sept. 16, as a fugitive from justice on a Massachusetts warrant for failure to appear on an eluding charge and other motor vehicle violations, according to a state police report.
