St. Christopher's Former Rectory Auctioned After Four Years on Market

Parish accepts highest bid of $413,000.

A town landmark has changed hands. After almost five years on the market, St. Christopher’s former rectory at 1660 Main Road in Tiverton was auctioned last Saturday and sold to the highest bidder for $413,000. The white 5,505-square-feet Victorian on over three acres with its sweeping wrap-around porch offers commanding views of the Sakonnet River. In the church bulletin, which will be distributed to parishioners at all Masses this weekend, the Rev. Peter J. Andrews, pastor of Saints Theresa and Christopher Parishes, described the details of the sale. “It was a difficult experience for some of us, but the decision was made to accept the highest bid from the rectory auction at St. Christopher last weekend,” said Andrews. “The person who …

Not only do I remember those courts but in the 80's the parishoners took on an effort to clean out behind the house. All the fallen trees and at the time we uncovered the court. The rectory was a very special place for many people who attended CCD or were part of the summer fair they had every year. Church of the Holy Ghost Holds Padre Pio Night

Blessed Padre Pio received the stigmata, the five wounds of the crucified Christ.

Last Sunday, more than a hundred faithful gathered at Church of the Holy Ghost in Tiverton for Padre Pio Night, which honored Blessed Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, an Italian friar who received the stigmata, the five wounds of the crucified Jesus Christ. Entering the dimly-lit sanctuary for the Holy Hour, the worshippers were greeted by flickering red candles and the music of crickets who chirped outside the open stained-glass windows. A statue of the beloved Capuchin friar, wearing the traditional brown robe of his order, stood on the altar. Spotlights illuminated statues of Mary and Joseph, who held the baby Jesus, as well as high above the altar an icon of the Holy Spirit and hovering angels.
