The Little Compton Public Safety Complex is located on Simmons Road around the corner from the Commons. The Little…More Compton Police Department and the Little Compton Fire Department combined facilities about 10 years ago. The police formerly occupied the space of the Sakonnet Lodge, while the fire department was next door where the building department is currently located.
Chief Sidney Wordell oversees the police department, which is a 10-man department. Two officers are on duty for 12-hour shifts, and they work three days on, three days off. There are 7 vehicles in their fleet. The department has 1 detective position and a dispatch service that covers the police, fire and rescue.
Chief Richard Petrin is the fire chief, in charge of a 9-firefighter department. They run on two 10-hour shifts and two 14-hour shifts, with 4 firefighters on duty and 4 off at a time. Their fleet consists of two front line engines, a tanker truck, two pumpers, a forestry truck with a skid-mounted pump and a 2 boats for marine rescue.
