@Jesus Christ,as someone who has first hand knowledge of UK police they do not handle a wholeRead More country with out guns they may not carry a side arm but at any given time half the officers on the road are armed the weapons are kept in the trunk of the cars.I would like to point out that there are two type of officers in the UK one is trained just to handle traffic violations, tickets accidents speeding etc,the others are trained to deal with traditional policing, last year when the soldier was killed my two men the first arriving officers where traffic and stood by until regular police arrived which took over twenty minutes, after that they then waited for a dog and armed cars to arrive before taking the suspects into custody this whole incident took 45 min before the suspects who stood there and waited to be arrested all the time with 6 officers on scene, before you post please double check your facts we are to believe they do not carry weapons but the do just not visible and there are two types of cops in the UK traditional and traffic, and just for reference COP stands for Constable on Patrol

I hope they don't plan on using theGlock #17 9 mil.shown above. The Colt made in the USA is farRead More superior and easy to conceal so the liberals don't get in a huff. Colt New Agent 9mm Pistol check it out.

I hope the Glock 9 mil. #17 is not their choice of weapon as shown. Made in America the Colt NewRead More Agent 9 offers the power and performance of a full-sized pistol in a compact, lightweight carry model. Small, lightweight, accurate, and reliable, it is able to withstand everyday wear and frequent practice sessions. They should carry a pistol, with the capability to get through a tough situation. I don't believe any where in my post it stated to allow them to continue based on mental issues. IRead More was just trying to get across that the reason for peoples behavior when in the grips of addiction isn't necessarily always choice. I advocate getting treatment and knowledge on the subject to better their understanding of why they do what they do. I, myself am a recovering addict, and while I have 5 years clean and sober, the disease of addiction is always lurking and waiting for me let my guard down for just one moment so it can strike. So, back to the having first responders carry Narcan with them, I'm all for it. Just my opinion.
Craig Civic April 14, 2014 at 06:49 pm
@ Joeb170...GREAT POSTS. PERIOD. @CB11: By your logic I'll bet you think it's OK and FINE andRead More ACCEPTED scientifically that you/one CAN have a GENETIC DISPOSITION...to, say, cancer, arthitis, heart disease or any of the other hundreds/thousands of diseases CAUSED BY chemical imbalances and genetics. And that if you get THAT KIND of illness from a GENETIC problem, well, gee, then, THAT'S ok. But, with your logic it is NOT OK when that chemical imbalance or genetic predisposition involves...ADDICTION. Because YOU, being stuck in the 1800's, feel addiction is a "moral" issue and not an 'illness", whether it be genetic or chemical or...NOT. The human body is just one big chemical reaction and it is MORE surpising that there are not even MORE anomalies/illnesses/imbalances than there actually are. The human body is an amazing chemical reaction that, incredibly runs PERFECTLY 99% of the time. It's not fun being part of THAT 1% though. But it is wonderful...maybe harder?...to show empathy and kindness and care to that 1%.
CB11 April 15, 2014 at 08:46 am
I am not "stuck" in the 1800s as you suggest. I also don't live with rose-colored glassesRead More on and think that "feel-good" empathy and misplaced compassion will solve this problem. You can try to educate the addicted but in the end, it is THEIR CHOICE to use or not. You can't be there 24-7, you can't control what they do. No matter how much you counsel and try to point them down the right path and warn them what's down the wrong one, you have no control on what they decide to do. We need to either get tough - and I mean "SWAT team surrounding the building" tough - on the gangs and the dealers who produce and sell the crap or just throw our hands up in the air and start giving out free kits with needles and Narcan. Not holding the addicted responsible for their actions and decisions is enabling and every addict will take advantage of that sort of compassion because it leaves them blameless for what they do. It's called "Tough Love" for a reason!

Renee, I read about advancements in technology day after day. The military uses robots and dronesRead More daily for search and destroy missions. It keeps our soldiers out of harms way. I know the technology is available today. Don't think it's a insult to use technology to keep fire fighters safe. No the robots wont replace fire fighters. But sending one in to spay a hose or pull out a victim is the future. MIT and other schools around the nation are working on these and have perfected it. We have the technology to operate on humans removing cancer and replacing organs. We explore mars and the outer solar system. The day will come when fire dept. will have this technology to use.

How about it if Mr. Middletowner brings back the company to Narragansett at the Roller Rink???Read More Think of all the attraction you'd get then with the brand. Think about it, RI is highest unemployment rate in the country. Bring the jobs back to Rhody, Mark Hellendrung.
Bill the 1st April 4, 2014 at 10:28 am
Yeah move the production back to RI, because, as we all know, the best business model is the oneRead More that considers how best to maximize costs and minimize returns. The reason RI is the highest unemployment rate in the country is that we are a State that has lost its way. Once a land of free, independent people, we are now the land of corruption and taxation and voluntary slavery. We have abdicated our individual power and rights to the majority and those who rule over us.

Not sure which hospital in RI my friend got operated in, but he got MRSA and ended up weeks in aRead More nursing home. - Apparently there are poor hygiene practices going on.
kelseyc April 3, 2014 at 08:17 am
There is a MSRA epidemic going on right now, all over the world, not just in RI. Usually once you'reRead More infected with MRSA once, you're colonized (essentially permanently). That's why, Mike, you received an infection a second time, and also why you'll most definitely be infected again if you ever need another surgery. Good hygiene practices are NOT the only thing that is going to stop an epidemic (what we really need is widespread knowledge about the horrors of antibiotic misuse). But if you all think simply going out of state for health care is going to solve the issue, please do. While we're at it, let's stop vaccinating our kids too because we can just blame infections on the hospitals. Yes, RI Hospital should have been more proactive about quarantining the patient; however, measles should also be all but eradicated in the US, but recent idiots like Jenny McCarthy have slowed that process a bit.
CB11 April 3, 2014 at 09:48 am
I got MRSA a few years ago and had not been anywhere near a hospital or nursing home. I spent a weekRead More in the hospital on heavy antibiotics. The doctors told me that it used to be something they saw people getting from a stay in the hospital or nursing homes but they are now seeing it brought IN to these places on people who are carriers but not affected by it. These people brush up against you, use the same handrail, touch anything that you then touch and you get it. I was told the best deterrent is to WASH! WASH! WASH! your hands often. I was also told to expect to get it again but, luckily, it's been 3 years with no further infection.

The Fireman's Prayer When I am called to duty God, Where-ever flames may rage, Give meRead More strength to save some life, What ever be it's age. Help me embrace a little child, Before it is too late, Or save an older person from The horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert and to hear the weakest shout, And quickly and efficiently, To put the fire out. I want to fill my calling and To give the best in me, To guard my every neighbour and Protect his property. And if according to my fate, I am to lose my life, Please bless with your protective hand, My children and my wife. The Fireman's Wifes Prayer The table's set, the meal's prepared, our guests will soon arrive. My husband once more disappears with a hope of keeping a child alive. While waiting at home alone, our plans having gone awry My first impulse is merely to sit right down and cry. But soon again I realize the importance of my life When I agreed to take on the duties of being a fireman's wife. While there are many drawbacks, I'll take them in my stride, Knowing "My Daddy saved a life" our children can say with pride. The gusting winds and raging flames may be his final fate. But with God's help I can remain my fireman's faithful mate.

Israel is Israel and the United States is the United States. They really can't be compared, at all.Read More It's ridiculous, what they're doing with Homeland Security regarding the Boston Marathon. Ben Franklin had it right when he said "Those who give up liberty for a modicum of security deserve neither." I also might add that Israel and the United States are two totally different places. Israel has had their security policies in place for a reason (not withstanding their inappropriate and brutal occupation of West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, which they have to end, in order to survive.), plus they're also a much smaller country than the United States. The United States, on the other hand, has never had enemies right smack on its borders, is much, much bigger than Israel, and we're being stupid by putting up security that's totally unnecessary.
