The Town Council created Tiverton's permanent police force on Jan. 5, 1952. The Tiverton Police Department is staffed with 27 police officers and split into the detective and patrol divisions. The department is overseen by Chief Thomas Blakey. All major felonies are investigated by the detective division and the patrol division provides Tiverton with 24-hour police coverage, divided into three eight-hour shifts.

The other departments include animal control, maintenance, records and communications. There are five full-time public safety dispatchers employed.

VIN inspections take place at the station every Wednesday from 9am to 3pm at a cost of $20.
