Concrete Concession Stand Donated to Tiverton Little League [VIDEO]

A crane from Cardi Corporation lifted the concession stand into place at the field behind Fort Barton School on Wednesday morning.

A former pre-cast concrete cell tower communications building now sits as the concession stand at for the . It was lifted into place Wednesday morning.

Thanks to the creative mind of the town's maintenance director, Robert Martin, the 16-foot by 22-foot building is donated by Castle Precast Company of Connecticut. Cardi Corporation donated their 100-ton crane to lift the 33-ton structure into place.

Martin said the league wanted to put in a wooden structure, which he advised against since the field is damp and would eventually become infested, rot and need to be replaced. He found the concrete building that was not being used in Connecticut and arranged for its transportation to Tiverton.

"I said it was for the kids, and that was that," Martin said.

He then walked down to Cardi's office on Evans Avenue where the new Sakonnet River Bridge is being constructed. He spoke to Project Supervisor Paul Grimaldi about needing help lifting the oversized load to the field, and Grimaldi soon replied they were willing to donate their services.

A most thankful Little League President Claudia Linhares said the league paid $2,000 for Wednesday's transportation costs for the concession stand.

Martin said they plan to power wash the building, which has a doorway and window cut outs, and paint it green. There's no septic connection in that area so portable bathrooms will still have to suffice.

Linhares reminded that opening day is Saturday, April 14.
