Scholarship Dinner Dance Planned For Late Tiverton Coach

Henry Guillette was well known in Tiverton for his involvement in youth sports.

The takes place later this month at and all proceeds go directly to two graduating senior athletes toward furthering their education.

The scholarship fund began in 2007 when Coach Henry Guillette passed away suddenly. Since then, the scholarship has donated over $20,000 to Tiverton athletes. They will award a $1,000 scholarship to one female athletic student at the high school and a $1,000 scholarship to one male athletic student in their senior year, for a total of $2,000.

The criteria for the scholarship are as follows:

  • A senior student athlete at Tiverton High School
  • Accepted into a 4-year accredited college
  • Must have participated in a sport for 4 years at Tiverton High School
  • Must show evidence of their academic success while at Tiverton High School
  • Two letters of recommendation (teacher, coach, clergy, guidance, etc.)

The application and all materials must be turned into the guidance office at the high school no later than April 27. A copy of the application and cover letter are attached to this post.

According to his wife Lori, Henry was very involved in Tiverton athletics and he was very well liked and everyone knew him. He coached Tiverton Youth Basketball, and CYO Basketball for .

"He spent hours with practices for the kids and planning the schedules," she said in a recent email. "He was a mentor to so many of his kids and set a good example for every one of them. He was more impressed with the child that wasn't the perfect athlete but who showed up every time and played their hearts out."

Lori said Henry would paint bleachers and concession stands, and the two made an impact at Pocasset Field where they spent hours cleaning up, planting gardens and digging out flower beds. His name now adorns the field with a header above the Pocasset Field scoreboard, made and donated by Abbie Peckham of Tiverton. Lori said that after his passing, Henry was honored with the distinct honor of becoming the first in the Tiverton Little League Hall of Fame.
