The speakers for the 2013 commencement ceremony at Portsmouth High School this Friday will be graduating seniors Steven Elleman and Emily Force.
Superintendent of Schools Lynn Krizic announced the student and faculty choices for graduation speakers Monday evening at the annual Senior Awards Program held at Portsmouth High School.
As tradition, Portsmouth High School selects two students to speak at the commencement ceremony. The school does not choose a valedictorian or salutatorian.
Instead, the student body chooses a student who best exemplifies the "Spirit of Portsmouth." This year's student choice was Force, who will attend Marymount Manhattan College in the fall.
Force has been president of the Student Council, captain of the swim team and a member of the National Art Honor Society.
For the second speaker, Portsmouth High School's teachers and faculty choose a student who excels academically.
This year's chosen faculty pick is Elleman, who will graduate on Friday with a 3.97 GPA. Elleman, who has completed 10 Advanced Placement courses, will join his sister at the University of California, Berkeley, this fall.
Congratulations Emily and Steven!
