Sandywoods Music Series

Sandywoods Center for the Arts offers live music on Saturday evenings. These concerts are affordably priced and feature a variety of great bands and musicians. More info at www.sandywoodsmusic.com.

I live at Sandywoods Farm, the new arts and agricultural community located just behind the Bulgarmarsh Recreation Area. I also serve as the program coordinator at Sandywoods.

At present, 50 families live at Sandywoods, in rental units that were completed in 2010. There are also 22 house lots for sale. All of the events and activities taking place at Sandywoods are for the benefit of both residents and folks living elsewhere. Our half acre community garden, weekly figure drawing classes, art gallery openings, and a monthly contra dance (on the 3rd Wednesday of the month) are just a few of the Sandywoods activities that all Tivertonians can participate in.

I'd like to encourage all Patch readers to also look into the weekly live music concerts that are offered in the Sandywoods Center for the Arts (SCA) at 43 Muse Way. You can read more about our Music Series at www.sandywoodsmusic.com.

The concerts feature a variety of types of music, and we book both local bands and national touring acts. Since we started presenting concerts in mid-April, we have offered everything from folk, Americana, bluegrass, roots, and blues music to hip hop, classical, and rock. We do our very best to keep ticket prices low, so that Tiverton residents and others can now enjoy a local, affordable nonprofit music venue. All of the proceeds from Sandywoods concerts go to support the arts and farming programs at Sandywoods.

The SCA is a beautiful, brand new building with a cathedral ceiling and great acoustics. Most concerts are on Saturday night, although we occasionally offer Friday night shows as well. Concertgoers are welcome to BYOB and bring a picnic supper or snacks if they wish. The hall seats 150 people when we set it up "coffeehouse-style," with tables and chairs. We can accommodate even more people when we use auditorium-style seating.

Upcoming fall concert highlights include The Jammin' Divas on 9/15, Nuala Kennedy on 9/23, John McCutcheon on 11/8, and Three Tall Pines on 11/17.

I hope you can make it to a Sandywoods concert soon! And please let me know if you have a favorite band or performer you would like to see play at Sandywoods.
