Town Council Vs. School Committee In Tiverton

Tiverton's School Committee and Town Council meetings overlap tonight. The School Committee votes on whether to accept the teacher's contract and the council will hold a public forum on the sale of the Nonquit and Ranger schools.

The Tiverton Town Council will hold a public forum on the sale of the Nonquit and Ranger Schools. The town initiated efforts to sell the Nonquit and Ranger school buildings, under a sealed-bid process earlier this year.

The sealed-bid process garnered on offer on the Ranger School building and two on the Nonquit building. The council decided to include the public in the the discussion on whether or not ot accept the offers.

The council will also continue a public hearing from June 25 on amendments to the zoning ordinance pertaining to outdoor hydronic heaters.

Councilman Robert Coulter will continue discussions on a comprehensive strategy to oppose tolls on the Sakonnet River Bridge.

The Tiverton School Committee will meet today, Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Tiverton High School library, 100 North Brayton Road.

The committee will vote on a three-year contract for its local teacher's union. If approved, the agreement would limit cost-of-living adjustments to new and senior teachers, give more professional development days to teachers and impose new restrictions on the rights of individual teachers to pursue grievances against the district. The committee wil also instate band and arts advisors and athletic coaches tonight.
