Tiverton Town Administrator Unexpectedly Steps Down During Investigation
Tiverton Town Administrator James Goncalo unexpectedly announced his retirement Monday night.
Tiverton Town Administrator James Goncalo is stepping down from office in an unexpected move, reports EastBayRI.com.
Town Administrator James Goncalo announced his retirement Monday night after an executive session with the Tiverton Town Council, according to EastBayRI.com. Goncalo allegedly told the council he was retiring in a letter, submitted on Monday night.
The announcement comes during a State Police investigation into Tiverton Maintenance Director Robert Martin.
Martin, an employee of the town since 1988, is being accused of working on his personal property while on town time. Martin has denied this accusation.

The council also voted Monday to suspend Martin from work for 30 days without pay, according to EastBayRI.com.
