Mike I see less qualifications for some of the folks running for council. One person on the budget committee does not have sole responsibilty for running a muiltimillion dollar budget. Common sense from running a business is great experience for the budget committee when every department head comes forward with the must have wish list. Sorry Mike your post was not very nice and disrespectful. Do you own your own company? Do you have to make payroll each week? Sorry Mike one does not have to be a CPA or a comptroller to be on the budget committee. If you don't like the form complain to patch not bash the person running for office.
Mike October 13, 2012 at 02:58 AM
Don't recall seeing anyone running for council with fewer qualifications, but I may have missed something. I understand the committee person does not have sole responsibility for the budget. However, there are responsibilities associated with the budget that would require appropriate experience. The form is not the issue. Other candidates used it to post quite a bit of information. And my comments are neither nice nor mean. I'm simply stating my opinion. If anything, this article's lack of content is disrespectful to the voter. I don't know Ms. O'Dell. She may be very well-qualified for this position, but this article does not convince me. You're free to disagree with my opinion. Finally, this is not about me. I'm not running for any office, so I'm not asking for anyone's vote. My experience and qualifications do not matter.

Joe-The position Ms. O'Dell is running for is budget committee-NOT diesel truck mechanic. In fairness to the voters, they deserve to know the educational background of the candidate. Today's town council/budget committee member needs to have a formal education in the areas of public administration, financial management, and labor relations. Speaking of formal education Joe, as a candidate for town council, could you please give the readers a brief rundown of your educational qualifications, such as undergraduate/graduate degrees, colleges/universities attended, etc. The voters have a right to know.

Typical TCC hypocrite...you have bashed the town planner for years and now you want posters to be "nice and disrespectful"? What a joke.
Just Another Taxpayer October 13, 2012 at 11:11 AM
Fake Jim L, states, "you sir are a coward and a moron,a disgrace to the name citizen nevermind that you hide behide numeerous names and are still allowed to post because the Patch editors refuses to own up to patch terms of service I believe you are a waste of air," The phrase "you sir", is always used by one David Nelson
Renee Cwiek October 13, 2012 at 11:48 AM
Joe, I thought you were independent? Why were you at the TCC candidate night and why were you a speaker? Have you changed your mind?
Tom October 13, 2012 at 12:21 PM
Jim L, your rant is inappropriate.
Rug Doctor October 13, 2012 at 12:54 PM
Sorry Mike you have not made your point at all here. As for BD we had an unqualifed town planner for a town that does not even need one...
Mike October 13, 2012 at 02:14 PM
Oh, I feel as though I have made my point, and you just can't stand it.
Naome Lixes October 13, 2012 at 02:59 PM
"Do you believe education should be weighted heavier than life experience?" A lot of us do. It's a leap from typing out a doctor's notes to something this large. The point is simple - if you're going to run town business, start small. There should be a step wise path to the top posts. Then, life experience would be relevant.

"As for BD we had an unqualifed town planner for a town that does not even need one..." checks and balances require research and consideration. So, if you want to govern by decree, just remove the advisory positions?
Naome Lixes October 13, 2012 at 03:04 PM
Were a resume like this submitted to my office, HR would file it immediately. It's a little thin, particularly for oversight of a fund this large.
Tom October 13, 2012 at 03:10 PM
While I agree that O'Dell doesn't have much by way of candidates she is more qualified than a Joe Sousaphone.
Tivertontaxpayer1 October 15, 2012 at 11:06 AM
Here's the answer to your question Renee-Looks like Joe has flip-flopped as usual: Erin Tiernan,,Leave my name on the list please . I am proud to be associated with these candidates. They have demonstrated that their intentions are in the best interest of our town. Only by controlling spending can we preserve the services and quality of life in Tiveton. Joe Sousa Candidate for Town Council.
Renee Cwiek October 15, 2012 at 11:22 AM
Why doesn't this surprise me.
Just Another Taxpayer October 15, 2012 at 02:44 PM
What criteria did you use in endorsing a Political Action Group?
Jim L October 15, 2012 at 02:58 PM
Well first in the case of CURB/T1 It must have a puppet master who hates the FTR and the folks who got it passed, Then you must have a number of faceless hitdogs, also it helps if a Patch editor is on your side, Then of course you need the superintedant of schools to instruct the school board in how to vote, and advotcate for teacher raises, next you get the head of the Tiverton Nea(you know the person who runs the union cares only for teachers and union dues, not the kids?)Next you insist you want only to heal the town by insulting anyone against youYes let every voter believe CURB/T1. Last I heard this was America and you had the right to face your accusers, of course unless they arefaceless CURB/T1 folks who either accuse people are agree with each other that attacking folks is the way to conduct a real and fair election, so sad to see this go on in Tiverton, It's a nice town, and should be better than this
Jim L October 15, 2012 at 02:59 PM
and we areback to peding approval? From who for what?
Jim L October 15, 2012 at 02:59 PM
who else gets hit with pending approval, anyone tell me
Renee Cwiek October 15, 2012 at 03:02 PM
Pending approval for what exactly?
Renee Cwiek October 15, 2012 at 03:04 PM
Maybe I'm a little confused. They added your name to their list of endorsements after you said you didn't want one. So you were in fact endorsed?
Just Another Taxpayer October 15, 2012 at 03:32 PM
The only "Hit Dog" I know is former Red Sox first baseman Mo Vaughn.
Just Another Taxpayer October 15, 2012 at 03:34 PM
The men in black suits and sunglasses must be controlling the Patch.
Gerry Jones October 15, 2012 at 04:00 PM
So many conspiracies, so little time.
Tiverton Dad October 15, 2012 at 04:23 PM
And one of the main things that Rug Doctor has bashed the town planner about is his supposed lack of qualifications.
Renee Cwiek October 15, 2012 at 05:07 PM
oh....they're approving your posts now before they go through. Well...that's interesting.
Tivertontaxpayer1 October 15, 2012 at 05:28 PM
"Joe Sousa says: "You shouldn't be surprised . I find them to be the best for the town . I was not endorsed. I endorsed them IC FAT" Very confusing post Joe, where you say they did not endorse you, but you instructed the Patch editor to keep your name on the list of TCC ENDORSED candidates. It appears someone is either confused or is being dishonest, and all signs point to Joe Sousa.
Jim L October 15, 2012 at 05:48 PM
yes isn't it
Chris Cotta October 24, 2012 at 04:37 PM
Jim, I've always received a response immediately after entering a post that states something to effect that the post is pending approval. I assumed that was normal business for all Patch postings. Sometimes a takes a little bit but I don't think any have ever been denied.
Renee Cwiek October 24, 2012 at 04:44 PM
I think there are a few people who use this site that are having their posts monitored before being posted. Erin said a few days back that posts will be going through her first.
