DOT To Rebuild Skinny Sakonnet Boat Ramp

The Department of Transportation has agreed to rebuild a boat ramp found to be too small for most vessels.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation has agreed to rebuild a boat ramp underneath the Sakonnet River Bridge after hearing complaints from the public, reports EastBayRI.com

The DOT has created a new design to rebuild the 12-feet-wide boat ramp considered too small for the average boat.

Cardi Corp., which is under contract with the state, will construct the new ramp. The new ramp will cost an additional $80,000 for the project.

Many residents complained about the boat ramp underneath the new Sakonnet River Bridge. The boat ramp was considered too "skinny" for boats larger than a kayak or canoe.
