Big Support for Removing Sakonnet River Bridge Toll
The bridge connects Tiverton and Portsmouth.
A proposal to eliminate a toll on the Sakonnet River Bridge received big support at a legislative hearing last week.
Representatives of the Newport County Chamber of Commerce, transit riders, and environmental groups testified in favor of the bill.
State Sen. Louis DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, which includes Little Compton, Middletown, Newport, Tiverton) is the lead sponsor of a bill that would do away with the toll.
The bridge connects Tiverton and Portsmouth.
