Tiverton Man Allegedly Threatens Two People with Pistol

A 59-year-old Tiverton man faces felony weapons charges after allegedly threatening two individuals with a pistol on State Street, police said.

David A. Tavares, 59, of 40 Bottom St., Tiverton, was arrested on July 31 at 1:24 a.m. after he allegedly illegally carried a 9mm pistol and threatened two individuals sitting in a car on State Street.

Tavares reportedly approached the individuals with a silver 9mm pistol visibly bulging from his waistband. He allegedly made reference to the gun before threatening the two people.

"You have about 30 seconds to get out of here before I plant you right where you sit," Tavares reportedly told the pair in the car.

Fall River Police originally responded to the inceident, but as the confrontation had occurred on the Tiverton side of State Street, Tiverton Police were called in.

Police reportedly found a 9mm pistol in Tavares' living room and arrested him on two felony weapons charges: carrying a pistol without a required permit and assault with a dangerous weapon. Police also charged Tavares with disorderly conduct.

Tavares was held overnight and arraigned in Second Division District Court on July 31. No release information was available at press time.
