Thousands Still Without Power In Tiverton and Little Compton

The sun is shining on Tuesday morning, but scattered limbs and widespread power outages are a reminder are all that remain of Hurricane Sandy.

According to National Grid's website, thousands of employees are on the ground working to restore power as quickly as possible on Tuesday with hundreds more of being supplemented from crews in Canada and across the US.

Although calls to National Grid's media relations team were not returned, the state Department of Transportation issued a press release this morning stating that road clearing and outage restoration efforts had resumed on Tuesday.

According to National Grid's outage map, about 25 percent of customers in Tiverton and Little Compton are still without power. Little Compton residents have been without electricity since 11:45 a.m. on Monday and some Tiverton residents have been without power since 1:45 p.m.

According to Tiverton Fire Chief Robert Lloyd, outages were scattered across town yesterday as a result of numerous downed tree limbs and poles that took out wires and trapped a fire engine on South Lake Road last night. A transformer fire off of Crandall Road cut power to residents early on Monday and affected customers all the way into Little Compton.
