Think about Driving Drunk in Tiverton? Think Again

Tiverton and Fall River police are teaming up to keep the roads safe this weekend.

Tiverton Police are joining law enforcement agencies across the state with stepped up patrols and rigorous enforcement of drunk and impaired driving laws.

The department on Facebook posted pictures of officers posing along with officers from the Fall River Police Department who will be on the streets this weekend to keep the roads safe.

"Our thanks to FRPD Motor officers SGT William Ayers, Jose Barbosa, Thomas Faris, and John Riley. Tiverton PD officers SGT Dan Raymond, Brittany Foster, and Joshua Pelletier," the department said in its post.

Tiverton and Fall River PD are joining the ranks of officers from Cranston Police, where will be teaming up with officers and troopers as part of the Southern Rhode Island DUI task force, which will have more than 35 law enforcement officials on patrol in ten communities on the mainland this weekend.

"Please remember if you are going to drink, think about designating a sober driver, taking a taxi or staying at a friends' home," said Cranston Police Lt. Matthew C. Moynihan.

If you see a potentially drunk driver, or know of someone getting into a car they shouldn't, call 911 or *77 on your cell phone.

This weekend is typically a busy one for law enforcement, as colleges celebrate commencement ceremonies. In addition, the air show is happening in Quonset, among other events.

The Rhode Island Office on Highway Safety's Blue Rip Tide grant program is paying for the effort.

Departments from South Kingstown, North Kingstown, Richmond, Charlestown, East Greenwich, Narragansett, West Greenwich, Jamestown and Westerly are part of the task force along with the Rhode Island State Police.
