Man Robs Bank of Newport; Police Seek Public's Help

Tiverton police are seeking the public's help in finding a man who robbed the Bank of Newport in Tiverton on Saturday morning.

Tiverton police are investigating a robbery that took place Saturday morning at the Bank of Newport, 614 Main Road, Tiverton. 

Tiverton police received a 911 call at 9:06 a.m. from the Bank of Newport, north branch, of a reported robbery. 

According to police, a man entered the bank around 9:06 a.m. The suspect was described as a white man, 5'6" tall, wearing a gray T-shirt and dark colored pants.

"He approached a bank teller with note threatening that he had a gun and demanding money," said Tiverton Police Lt. Patrick Jones. 

The man was given an undetermined amount of cash and fled the bank. Police are unsure if he fled on foot or in a vehicle.

Police are asking for anyone with information, or who may have been in or around the bank at the time, to call investigators Lt. Michael Carr and Det. Jason Dunlea at 401-625-6717 to help identify the suspect to further the investigation.

Tiverton police are in the process of obtaining video surveillance. A photo will be forthcoming.

“We are fortunate no one was injured during the incident,” Lt. Jones said.
