The 55-year-old Newport man this morning was a professor, according to an email from President Sister Jane Gerety to the university community.
The e-mail, RE: "Prayer Request for Dr. Peter Liotta" reads:
It saddens me to inform you of the passing of Dr. Peter Liotta, who was killed in a car accident early this morning. Dr. Liotta was beloved by his students, respected among colleagues and renowned internationally for his prolific writing and expertise on world issues. During Dr. Liotta’s tenure as executive director of Salve Regina’s Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy, he produced high caliber programs that were both timely in nature and relevant. His leadership connected the University with many national and international institutions and organizations.
Please keep Dr. Liotta and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
The Office of Academic Affairs is working to make sure those students enrolled in Dr. Liotta’s classes this semester are able to fulfill their academic requirements. Students affected will be contacted. Any students wishing to speak with a counselor may contact University Counseling Services at extension 2919.
