Police charged Amanda J. Sparks, 27, of 451 Long Highway, Little Compton, with driving under the influence after she allegedly drove drunk and crashed her Jeep into a utility pole on West Main Road in Portsmouth early Friday.

Police said Sparks told police she had been in Newport and had too much to drink — a fact corroborated by her slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

Sparks, who failed sobriety test, was not seriously hurt in the crash that damaged her Jeep and bent the pole.

Police said they found an open bottle of whiskey in the Jeep.

The crash happened at around 1:40 a.m.

It was posted on Portsmouth Patch and the photo said "Portsmouth Police Department" under it . . . but I added "Portsmouth" to the lede and I do appreciate your condescension.

It also pops up as the second lead story on Tiverton-Little Compton home page, then the article opens up with Tiverton-Little Compton as the banner. Didn't mean to be condescending, Mark ... I didn't realize that you created the post and I know you're handling multiple sites. Please accept my apology ... chalk it up to leftover frustration from the days of the 'cut and paste' crew.

Hey there. No worries, sir. I'm still working on my first cup of coffee this morning and I just went through a few comments before yours that and it started to feel like I was getting beaten over the head with a nerf bat. Thanks for the reply. I hear ya, in terms of the past. You're right - this was shared with Tiverton/LC Patch and I obviously should have been clearer in the story. Thanks again and kudos for the reply. It's good to know we're both human, right!? Hope you have a good weekend.

No worries here, either ... I know what you're dealing with; I was the Internet editor for a large Florida daily for a while and had to deal with the same old grumbling in the morning. I should know better <g>. You have a good weekend as well ...
