Firefighters Extinguish Blaze on Randolph Avenue

An off-duty firefighter was first to respond to a structure fire Sunday morning on Randolph Avenue, just off Main Road.

Tiverton firefighters first received a report of the fire at 7:30 a.m. An off-duty firefighter in the area saw heavy black smoke coming from the two-story, wooden structure at 15 Randolph Ave.

The two-story property was detached from the main house. The structure was set up as a garage on the first floor and living quarters above. No one was home at the time of the fire, said acting-Lt. Daniel Murphy of the Tiverton Fire Department.

"We had to ventilate the roof," Murphy said. "At the same time, an EMS call came in...We had quite a few calls going on at same time. It was a busy morning."

Firefighters from the Fall River and Portsmouth Fire Departments assisted at the scene. No injuries were reported.

"It appears to be a dryer fire," Murphy said when asked the cause.

The property sustained significant structural damage. The building inspector deemed the structure unsafe.
