A local firefighter was injured Saturday during the response on Main Road.

A local firefighter was injured Saturday while fighting a house fire on Main Road, reports The Associated Press

The firefighter, who has not been identified but is a member of the Tiverton Fire Department, injured his knee while battling the blaze at 148 Main Road Saturday night.

At approximately 9:40 p.m., the Tiverton Fire Department received a call for smoke in the basement of an occupied home at 148 Main Road.

The members assigned to Station 2 in the north end were currently out on a rescue call with Rescue 2 which left that station empty. The station is two blocks from the fire scene.

Crews from Crandall Road and South Tiverton responded. Off-duty firefighter Lt. Joseph Plocica responded from his home and assisted the residents with escaping the home.

Many local fire departments, including Portsmouth, Fall River, and Westport, responded to assist Tiverton Fire Department. Swansea, Middletown and Little Compton provided additional station coverage.
