Madeline Olson Hawes, Founder of the State Police Troopers Wives' Association, Dies at 84

Madeline Olson Hawes, Little Compton resident and active community advocate, died at her home on Thursday, June 14, 2013.

Madeline Olson Hawes,  84, formerly of Rumford and Little Compton, died peacefully, Thursday, June 13, 2013, at home surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Egbert D Hawes Jr.

Born Feb. 1, 1929 in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Agnes (Clark) Olson. She was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church, where she was a member and past president of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a founding member of the RI State Police Troopers Wives' Association. She also received a Federal appointment to the US Selective Service Appeals Board where she served as vice-chair under Judge Frank Caprio.

Besides her husband of 61 years, she is survived by 10 children, all of Little Compton. She also leaves behind 23 Grandchildren and 20 Great-Grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 17 at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine's of Siena Church, 74 Simmons Rd., Little Compton. A burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence. Calling hours will be on Sunday, June 16 from 4 - 8 p.m., in the Rebello Funeral Home, 901 Broadway, East Providence.
