Where to Plunge Into Icy Waters on New Year's Day

Here's a look at where to find a Polar (or Seal) Plunge on Jan. 1, 2014.

Looking to greet 2014 with an icy stare? Hope to dare the odds and freeze your butt off this New Year's Day? 

Lucky for you, there's plenty of polar plunges happening in and around Portsmouth!

Portsmouth 

New Year's Eve Plunge — "The Final Dive for 375" will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at noon at  Island Park Beach. Please note this plunge is taking place a day earlier than usual to celebrate the town's final 375th anniversary event. Post Plunge Party for participants will be held at "The Beach House" in Island Park.

Tiverton 

The third annual Tiverton Yacht Club's Penguin Plunge — The plunge will take place at noon on Jan. 1 at Grinnell's Beach, Main Road and Lawton Avenue in Tiverton. The event is free and open to public. A $10 donation will be accepted to benefit the Tiverton Library. 

Newport

35th Annual New Year's Day Polar Bear Plunge — The plunge will begin at noon at Easton's Beach. The plunge will benefit A Wish Come True Foundation. This event marks the start of Newport's anniversary year! 

Jamestown 

Jamestown First Day Plunge — The first day plunge will take place at noon, but festivities will start at 10 a.m. at the recreation center, 41 Conanicus Ave.
