Samantha Rollings Receives OOIDA Scholarship

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2014-2015 Mary Johnston Scholarship.

Samantha Rollings, Tiverton, RI, was among five top scholars chosen for this honor. To apply, the students were asked to submit a 500-word reflection essay on how a trucker has influenced their life, the way their educational goals resonate with their personalities, and to make suggestions for how OOIDA can improve the public image of the professional truck driver.

Thanks to the OOIDA Mary Johnston Scholarship Fund, more than 75 students have continued their studies in this 15-year legacy. Scholarship awards are available each year for children, grandchildren, and legal dependents of OOIDA members. To recognize the value of their hard work, each award is renewable for up to three years.

OOIDA sends a special thanks to Shell Rotella for their continued support. Shell Rotella donated $10,000 to the scholarship fund for the fifth straight year. Todd Spencer, executive vice president for OOIDA, and scholarship committee chairman Bill Rode accepted the check from Dave Waterman, marketing manager for Shell Rotella, at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., in March. Overall, the scholarship fund collected more than $11,717 at MATS, with contributions from First Choice Logistics Inc., the JBC group and through donations collected at OOIDA’s Spirit of the American Trucker trailer and truck.
