Plover and Tern Chicks Saturday Stroll at Goosewing Beach

Start your weekend with a beautiful morning stroll guided by a naturalist from the Nature Conservancy in RI!


We'll go for an easy walk down the beach, learning about the plants and animals that call this preserve home.

This is the third of our Saturday Strolls this summer and we'll be keeping an eye out for the plover and tern chicks. This time of year, both of these birds will be out and about looking for food in preperation for their journey south, and the highly independent plover chicks will be all over the beach. We'll be able to use a spotting scope to get

This event is open to all ages. We'll meet at the Benjamin Family Education Center. To get there, walk to the end of South Shore beach until you reach the Goosewing Beach sign. The center is a small building up the grassy hill to your left. This event is free, but South Shore beach charges a parking fee.

    they prepare for their journey southward.
  • August 30—Migrating Shorebirds—The plovers and terns are
    moving out, while birds that nest further north are moving in.
