Migrating Monarchs: Tagging Monarch Butterflies

The Migration of Monarch Butterflies across North America is one of nature’s most remarkable phenomena.

The yellows of late summer goldenrod in the fields and dunes of The Nature Conservancy's Goosewing Beach Preserve have attracted thousands of Monarchs before heading south on their migration.  Why do Monarchs migrate?  Where do they spend the winter?
Join Mark Mello, Lepidoptera expert, author of Butterflies Across Cape Cod and Research Director at the Lloyd Center in South Dartmouth as he gives a demonstration on catching and tagging Monarch butterflies.

We’ll learn about Monarch butterfly biology and migration patterns, before heading out to catch and tag these beautiful insects!  The data acquired while tagging will be contributed to Monarch Watch, an international organization dedicated to conducting Monarch research.
