Tiverton Community Blood Drive

A Tiverton Community Blood Drive will be held at Amicable Congregational Church, 3736 Main Road, Tiverton, RI on Monday, January 21 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM.  The Rhode Island Blood Center relies exclusively on volunteer donors to ensure an adequate blood supply for the Rhode Island community.  To meet today's increasing blood needs, an average of 280 units of blood must be collected each day.  There is no substitute for human blood, yet in Rhode Island only seven percent of eligible donors actually donate blood.  Dunkin’ Donuts is providing coupons for a pound of coffee for each blood donation during the month of January.
All blood types are needed.  Emergency care for a car accident can require 50 pints of blood.  One pint of blood can save three lives.  The actual blood donation takes approximately five to ten minutes, and the entire visit lasts only 45 minutes to one hour.  Donating blood does not hurt. A simple pinprick is all that is felt.  There is no risk of contracting disease from donating blood. All equipment is sterile, used only once, and then disposed. You can give blood if you are over the age of 17 and weigh 110 pounds or more.  If you have any questions please contact the Rhode Island Blood Center at 453-8360.
