Friday: Don't Freeze, Honky Tonk and Read Well

It's Friday, Oct. 12 in Tiverton and Little Compton

Weather: There will be a chance of showers on Friday, mainly between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. By night, skies will be clear according to the National Weather Service.

1. TheNational Weather Service (NWS) has issued a freeze watch for most of Rhode Island this weekend. 

temperatures will dip into the lower 30s Friday night and into Saturday morning in central and southern Rhode Island. The freeze watch goes into effect Friday around midnight.

The freeze may kill sensitive vegetation, possibly bringing an end to this year's growing season. On the flip side, it may put an end to another season – mosquito season.

2. The Honky Tonk Knights play tonight at Sandywoods Farm. All members are seasoned players and vocalists sharing a common love for roots music and making people dance. The two-guitar sound delivers entwined stereo rhythm, licks and leads around the solid slap & thump of the Cooley/White bass and drum foundation.

The Honky Tonk Knights show starts at 8 p.m. and costs $10.

3. Be a volunteer! Literacy Volunteers of East Bay is looking for volunteers to help tudor adults in need of literacy training. Make a difference to those in need in your community!

4. Cody, a male Yorkshire Terrier, is still missing this morning. According to his owner, he went missing on Oct. 10 near Highland Road. If you have any information on Cody's whereabouts call 401-924-2864.

5. On this day in 2007, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change are awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to increase public knowledge about man-made climate change. In 2006, Gore had starred in the Academy Award-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth, which was credited with raising international awareness about the global warming crisis, according to History.com.
