Health Inspections: China Gourmet, Dunkin' Donuts

The Rhode Island Health Department noted the violations at the following Tiverton-Little Compton establishments in June:

China Gourmet - The following violations were noted during an inspection on June 26.

  • An open employee's beverage container was observed in a food preparation area. Employees shall not drink from open beverage containers in order to prevent contamination of their hands, the container and exposed food.
  • Raw shrimp was stored in the back of cooked ready-to-eat foods in the prep unit. Raw animal foods must be separated from raw ready-to-eat food such as vegetables during storage.
  • Working containers of dry ingredients (rice, flour, sugar, etc) are not labeled with the common name of the food. Working containers holding food or food ingredients that are removed from their original packages, such as flour, herbs, salt, sugar and spices must be labeled with the common name of the food.
  • Egg crates are being re-used. Cardboard boxes are being re-used to store food. Egg crates and cardboard boxes are not meant for re-use, crates/boxes must be disposed of when empty. Egg crates were thrown out.
  • The nonfood-contact surfaces of the gaskets on the prep unit have an accumulation of mold/mildew. Non-food contact surfaces must be maintained free of build-up.
  • The nonfood-contact surfaces of the containers used to store dry ingredients have an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue and other debris. Non-food contact surfaces must remain free of build-up.
Dunkin' Donuts (Stafford Road) The following violations were noted during an inspection on June 4.
  • The establishment does not employ a full-time, on site manager certified in food safety. Each food establishment where potentially hazardous foods are prepared shall employ at least one (1) full-time , onsite manager certified in food safety who is at least eighteen (18) years of age. FMC17105 expired:1/31/12.
  • Containers of money and keys were stored on the food prep table during food prep. These items must not be stored in food prep areas.
  • The pre-flush spray hose at the 3 bay sink is hanging below the flood rim. A plumbing system shall be installed to prevent backflow of a liquid or gas contaminant into the water supply by providing an air gap or installing an approved backflow prevention device.
  • The outside dumpster was over flowing with trash bags, doors are not able to be closed.
