Health Inspections: Boat House Restaurant, Moose Cafe

The Department of Health performed the following inspections in August. 

THE BOAT HOUSE RESTAURANT (Inspected on Aug. 13)

Food-contact surfaces: cleaned & sanitized 

Inspector Comments 
The slicer had an accumulation of food and debris. The food contact surfaces of equipment must be clean to sight and touch. The slicer was cleaned during the inspection.23Consumer advisory posted for raw or undercooked foods 

Inspector Comments 
The consumer advisory provided does not disclose some of the foods on the menu that are raw or undercooked. At next printed please make changes to include all items that can be served undercooked.31Proper cooling methods used; adequate equipment for temperature control 

Inspector Comments 
Proper cooling methods were not used for potentially hazardous foods. Items were observed stored in containers greater than 4"deep, covered and stacked. Items must be allowed to properly cool before storing in containers, covering and stacking.37Contamination prevented during food preparation, storage & display 

Inspector Comments 
A hand sink is located between the prep table and a storage shelf. The prep table and shelf are exposed to splash from the hand sink. Splash guards are required on both sides of the hand sink.41In-use utensils: properly stored 

Inspector Comments 
Utensils were stored in standing water, spatulas stored between tables, and the ice scoops was stored in the ice. Utensils must be stored properly in between uses, in a clean, dry area.43Single-use & single-service articles: properly stored & used 

Inspector Comments 
Single serve items in the storage area are stored under and area of the ceiling that is exposing insulation. This area must be repaired so insulation is not showing or items must be moved to another location.45Food & non-food contact surfaces cleanable, properly designed, constructed & used 

Inspector Comments 
The sauté unit had an ambient temp of 50 degrees. The gaskets on the drawers are in poor repair. These gaskets must be replaced. All food had be placed in unit earlier in the day, food was moved to walk in and brought back to temp. Unit can not be used until gaskets are replaced and unit is holding proper temps. Gasket are on order.45Food & non-food contact surfaces cleanable, properly designed, constructed & used 

Inspector Comments 
Several cutting boards in the kitchen are very scratched and scored. Cutting blocks and boards that are subject to scratching and scoring shall be resurfaced if they can no longer be effectively cleaned and sanitized, or discarded if they are not capable of being resurfaced.49Plumbing installed; proper backflow devices 

Inspector Comments 
The pre-flush spray hose at the dishwasher is hanging below the flood rim. A plumbing system shall be installed to prevent backflow of a liquid or gas contaminant into the water supply by providing an air gap or installing an approved backflow prevention device.

THE MOOSE CAFE (Inspected on Aug. 13)
Certified manager as required; compliance with Code or correct responses. 

Inspector Comments 
The establishment does not employ a full-time, on site manager certified in food safety. Each food establishment where potentially hazardous foods are prepared shall employ at least one (1) full-time , onsite manager certified in food safety who is at least eighteen (18) years of age.14Food-contact surfaces: cleaned & sanitized

The can opener had an accumulation of food and debris. The food contact surfaces of equipment must be clean to sight and touch.21Proper date marking & disposition 

Inspector Comments 
Sliced deli meat and chicken salad, located in the walk-in refrigerator, were not marked with the date of preparation. Ready-to-eat potentially hazardous food , prepared in the establishment and held for more than 24 hours, must be marked with the date of preparation.37Contamination prevented during food preparation, storage & display

Food cases are stored on the floor in the front service area, walk-in cooler and freezer. Food must be stored at least 6 inches above the floor.49Plumbing installed; proper backflow devices 

Inspector Comments

Inspector Comments 
The receptacle in the women's toilet room is lacking a cover. A toilet room used by females shall be provided with a covered receptacle for sanitary napkins.
