Rhode Islanders have a depressing view of their state, according to a new Gallup poll.

Just 18 percent said Rhode Island is the best or one of the best states to live in. That was the lowest total of any state, behind Illinois (19 percent) and Mississippi (26 percent).

"Residents with the most pride in their state as a place to live generally boast a greater standard of living, higher trust in state government, and less resentment toward the amount they pay in state taxes," the poll found.

Rhode Island's economy is currently in shambles; it has the highest unemployment rate in the country at 8.7 percent.

The poll was conducted from June through December of 2013 and included interviews with at least 600 residents in every state. The results were released Thursday.

Montana and Alaska (77 percent each) were tied for having the highest percentage of respondents who said their state is the best or one of the best states to live in. New Hampshire was ranked No. 7 at 67 percent.

Poor Tom Badger. It must be depressing when every comment is factually incorrect. I haven't been in Providence but have talked with folks in: Narragansett, Wakefield, Jamestown, Newport, Cranston, Barrington, East Greenwich and East Providence -- and that's just so far. There are half a dozen other locales on my list before I leave. For a state that people claim they do not want to be, I've been impressed to see so few For Sale signs on houses. I've yet to be in an empty restaurant or shop or on an empty beach. I think Rhode Island could use a better list of talking points.

Obviously you haven't seen every town , city and state government's fiscal bookwork as they all are teetering on bankruptcy . You also seem to be very uneducated as if you were educated you'd very well know that every state no matter the size gets @ least 2 US Senators and 2 members of the US House of Representatives . Of course you are no more than a political shill lol . Did you also work for KKK member Bird also ?

It's nice to see you've taken nice tours of Yuppie Towns except for the stink holes of Cranston and East Providence .
