Where to Find History in Tiverton-Little Compton

Learn, play and beat the heat by visiting your local museums.

Want to learn more about Tiverton's rich history? Why not enjoy a walking tour of Tiverton's Four Corners?

Tiverton Four Corners offers all the charm of a quaint New England village. It is a unique place where visitors can eat homemade ice cream, gourmet sandwiches, and browse through more than two dozen small shops, a few antique shops, and several art galleries.

Four Corners has been an important part of Tiverton for 300 years. The town of Tiverton, originally part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, has an interesting history - as it has been a witness to Native American life, European settlement, multiple wars, the transfer to Rhode Island, and the remarkable transition from British to American rule.

Along the way you'll find the Chase-Cory House.

Located in Tiverton 4-Corners National Register Historic District and built in the late 17th or early 18th century, this 3/4 cape with gambrel roof, now owned by the Tiverton Historical Society, was home to whaling captains and their families, descendants of one of the first of twenty seven freemen listed as original residents of Tiverton.

The house and grounds retain many features original to a Colonial village farm including a corn-crib and wash house. Special exhibits throughout the season.
