Arthur F. “Artie” Helger, Jr., 73, of Tiverton, RI

Arthur F. “Artie” Helger, Jr., 73, of Tiverton, RI passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family after a 6 year run with pancreatic cancer.    

Born in Tiverton, son of the late Arthur F. Helger, Sr. and the late Mildred (Keely) Helger, he was a lifelong resident of Tiverton.  Arthur ran Bridgeport Seafood with his son David for many years until his retirement.  Arthur was an avid fisherman, helped in the construction of the Newport Bridge and operated the Patchet Brook Tree Farm with his former wife Jean F. Smith Helger.  In his younger years he was an all around top ranking athlete, excelling in soccer for the Tiverton Orioles.  A sports enthusiast, he also played baseball, softball and basketball, receiving numerous awards for his athletic abilities.  Arthur was an antique car collector and an enthusiast as well. 

Survivors include 3 children: David J. Helger of Tiverton, Jean Ann Helger of Adamsville and Susan M.Vandal of Little Compton; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.        

Graveside service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, July 28, 2014 at Hillside Cemetery, Tiverton at 10:00 A.M.     

Calling hours Sunday 5 – 8 P.M. at the POTTER FUNERAL HOME, 81 Reed Rd., Westport.
