THS Musicians are a big hit in Hershey, PA, lead by one "perfect" marching performance!

This past weekend, Tiverton High School’s Performing Arts Department traveled to Hershey, Pa. to compete in the North East Regional Music Festival.  This national music festival featured some of the top performing ensembles from Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia. The ensembles performed before panels of nationally acclaimed, university level educators, adjudicators and clinicians. The marching, concert and jazz bands, all under the direction of Mike Alves, were awarded top honors in each of their respective divisions.

The Concert Band was the first of the Tiverton Ensembles to receiving a Rating of Excellent and was the top scorer in the class “A” division.

Tiverton’s Marching Band, with a 11 year divisional championship streak on the line, captured the Divisional as well as the Overall Marching Awards in dramatic fashion with an extremely rare perfect score of 100/100. The Marching unit also has 10 consecutive Ratings of Superior and 7 Best in Class/Overall awards over the past 12 years. Later that evening, the Marching Band was also recognized verbally at the awards ceremony for receiving the only perfect score of the entire festival regardless of category.

Last, but certainly not least, the Jazz Ensemble finished out Tiverton’s performance day.  After a second consecutive third place finish at the Berklee Jazz Festival in Boston earlier in the year, Tiverton’s Jazz Ensemble scored an outstanding 96.5/100.  Similarly to the Marching Band, the solid performance was just enough to capture the Divisional and Overall Awards in the jazz category as well.

Be sure to catch all of Tiverton High’s Performing Arts Ensembles on Wednesday, May 21st at the Tiverton High School auditorium for their annual spring concert.  Also, look for the Tiger Marching Band at the upcoming Memorial Day Parade in Fall River, MA on Monday, May 26th.
