The Republican Healthcare Plan

Way back in 1974, President Richard Nixon presented a plan that called for a national healthcare plan.  It would have made all but the smallest employers offer HC to it's workers, while the poor and elderly would be picked up by Medicare/Medicaid.  This plan was introduced to combat the plan offered by Ted Kennedy.

Now jump to 1988/89.  A conservative think tank, called the Heritage Foundation, proposed an idea called "The Individual Mandate".  This would have forced everyone to obtain health care coverage or face a tax penalty.

Now let's look at 1993.  The GOP, using the Heritage Foundations blueprint, put forth a plan to counter HillaryCare.  This plan was later used to success by the Republican Gov. of MA, Mitt Romney.  (RomneyCare).

Now it is 2013.  We have the ACA, (ObamaCare).  A Republican plan, first conceived 40 years ago by a Republican.  Modified over the same 40 year span by a host of Republicans.

I guess the question is:  Why are the Republicans and Tea Party so angry that we finally passed a Republican Health Care Plan?

Jack, you lie to much. Starting to sound like Bobby O.
Renee Cwiek December 05, 2013 at 11:24 AM
I've heard comments like that from people who say why should I have to pay taxes to support the schools since I have no kids in school. Kind of the same concept. I do not mind a portion of my tax dollars going to help others have health insurance. I know what it's like not to have it, and it really sucks.
Renee Cwiek December 05, 2013 at 11:41 AM
In my opinion it's the same concept. Just because things are mandated or not mandated doesn't make it right. This is my opinion. To which I'm entitled to without being told it's wrong. I'm a strong believer in it takes a village. Yes...there are people who abuse the system. All of them? No.
Just Another Taxpayer December 05, 2013 at 12:37 PM
I love how Tea Party members make up things and try to pawn them off as facts For example "School is mandated by the Constitution and Bill of rights,". Really? I wonder which amendment specifically states that citizens are entitled to be educated? I also can't help but laugh when these same people oppose government helping its citizens who are in need, yet receive federal subsidies in the form of salaries, retirement payments and health care coverage. It is the height of hypocrisy.
Renee Cwiek December 05, 2013 at 12:43 PM
I'm kind of wondering where in the constitution it says that too? Again...I don't think I'm wrong at all.
Joe S. December 05, 2013 at 01:01 PM
Thomas Jefferson supported Bible reading in school; this is proven by his service as the first president of the Washington D. C. public schools, which used the Bible and Watt's Hymns as textbooks for reading.
Renee Cwiek December 05, 2013 at 01:13 PM
Under that idea Jack, you could put having health insurance under general welfare as well. It's very broad.
Renee Cwiek December 05, 2013 at 01:17 PM
What does bible reading have to do with anything?
Renee Cwiek December 05, 2013 at 01:23 PM
Always glad that we can chat Jack and not get upset by our differences of opinions. =)
Just Another Taxpayer December 05, 2013 at 01:33 PM
I love how the Tea Party members shift the conversation when they are proven wrong. Case in point, School is mandated by the Constitution and Bill of rights," is a quote from a known member of the East Bay Patriots. Yet when confronted to support his assertion, he shifts the discussion to the League of Women Voters position on public education in this country. These Tea Party members are something else.
Just Another Taxpayer December 05, 2013 at 01:37 PM
Our "Patriot" leaves out that he served as firefighter on Newport Navy Base. One would assume he was paid by the federal government. Here is another example of the hypocrisy which permeates the Tea Party. Our Patriot received a financial benefit(a pay check) for a number of years, but rejects the idea of the federal government expending money to other Americans.
OldTownie December 05, 2013 at 01:40 PM
The US Supreme Court upheld the ACA. What does that mean? It's constitutional, despite anyone's opinion otherwise.
OldTownie December 05, 2013 at 02:00 PM
Jack, Didn't you berate me for thinking you wrote a post that was written by your brother? Look up. I SAID it was upheld, not JAT. Can you read?
OldTownie December 05, 2013 at 02:06 PM
Jack, It is now quite clear to me that you are morally and intellectually bankrupt. The words "education" appear nowhere in the US Constitution. That's why the Tea Party wants to dissolve the US Dept of Education, stating that there is NO justification for a federal cabinet level agency. They think it is a "States" issue. No "Right" can be a states issue though, can it Jack? It always makes me laugh when TP's who are such sticklers for "words and punctuation" ie: the 2nd Amendment, can so easily dismiss the absence or inclusion of words in other articles and amendments. Sounds like selective reasoning.
OldTownie December 05, 2013 at 02:13 PM
And clearly you know nothing about the history of the Soviet Union.
OldTownie December 05, 2013 at 02:46 PM
Jack, when you get caught in your lies and propaganda, you spin almost as well as Bobby O. Is Education a basic right? Yes or No? IF so, where is it spelled out in the Constitution? Can you name ANY basic right that is left up to the "States"? Come on...name one.
OldTownie December 05, 2013 at 02:52 PM
Was the ACA challenged in front of the SCOTUS? Yup. Did the Court strike down the ACA? Nope. Verdict: Constitutional. It's really not hard to understand.
OldTownie December 05, 2013 at 03:00 PM
Yeah Jack, your a Russian expert. And all my in-laws (Born, raised and STILL living in the Russia) know nothing. Here is an old Russian proverb for you and your mom: Как время проходит, что рассказы хуже
Pat Silvia December 05, 2013 at 04:16 PM
Yikes! It's the Holidays, guys! You two are supposed to be friends. Just agree to disagree and move on. And please, OldTownie, don't dislike Jack so much that you compare him to you-know-who.
Joe S. December 05, 2013 at 04:25 PM
Old Townie's a Ruskei ? I bet you miss those days when the Kremlin ruled . The Bread lines and all that dirty coal . (Большой Кремлёвский дворец
Renee Cwiek December 05, 2013 at 04:40 PM
I'm really trying to figure out how everyone came up with support Stalin and old Russia? Did I miss something? Are we grasping at that because of the proverb? That's a big jump.
Hingle McCringleberry December 05, 2013 at 04:50 PM
Jack maybe I am a little slow, but i even went to the trouble of having the russian translation and I still can't seem to see anywhere where oldtownie says he supported Stalin. As for calling your brother the Taliban isn't that his right of free speech to say that. Just because someone is a vet and a marine does not mean that the can't have extreme views and that people can't call them out on them. You also say that he never mentioned a thing about his relatives being from Russia, Why would he? I have been reading your tripe for quite some time and never heard you mention that your mother was born in Russia. Should we then doubt you as well. Jack you really become unhinged whenever someone proves you wrong. I mean whats next will you go back to calling other folks child molester's. That is the kind of guy you are and that is why you are not to be believed and you are also wrong in this case as you are in many others.
Renee Cwiek December 05, 2013 at 04:52 PM
Sorry Jack. I still don't see it. I just think you're both reaching and taking jabs at each other now based on nothing.
Pat Silvia December 05, 2013 at 05:01 PM
I am so confused. Stay away from Patch for a while and all heck (just so I wouldn't get in trouble) breaks loose. Renee, break out some of the sayings you posted on FB!
Hingle McCringleberry December 05, 2013 at 05:06 PM
Good Lord Jack, when you go off the deep end you really jump in with both feet. The problem is that you think and type about as well as a one legged man would do in an ass kicking contest. That is to say horrible and very lopsided. When and where did anyone call your mother a liar. When you make mental leaps like that it is you who appears to be full of BS. Another question Jack, has your account ever been suspended since you want to throw stones at other. I have seen you have many conflicts with many different posters on here over the past few months. It seems to me that the one thing they all have in common is that as soon as someone disagrees with you or asks you to support one of your statements, you go on the attack, tell them they are wrong and usually call them a liar based on some perceived insult that no one else can seem to see. Don't forget Jack that you were the one who actually thought that my name Hingle McCringleberry was a real college football player from Penn State. You though that because you searched the name and that was the first thing that came up. You were to thick headed to realize that it is a name from a comedy sketch. You even quoted that Hingle was recently penalized for excessive celebration, which was also mentioned on your first google hit. You are not even half as smart as you think but you are entertaining in a sad sort of way.
OldTownie December 05, 2013 at 05:38 PM
Joe S. As always, an idiot. How does "in-laws" make ME Russian?
Renee Cwiek December 05, 2013 at 05:44 PM
Townie, I think the white sheet has made it impossible to read posts. =)
OldTownie December 05, 2013 at 05:48 PM
Jack, I just went back and read all the posts you deleted. Wow. you are a whiny little baby aren't you? Yes, I called your brother Taliban. And I stand by it. He wrote that pack of lies you posted. That makes both of you, American Taliban. Not once did I call your mother a liar. But here's what I know. she was smuggled out as a CHILD! She did NOT live her life in the CCCP, my in laws DID. So yes, I will listen to what they say, since they, unlike you, ARE RUSSIAN! Support Stalin? Your a clown. Show me where I wrote it. sorry I called you out, but your lies have been going on to long.
Renee Cwiek December 05, 2013 at 06:00 PM
I love google translators. =)
Just Another Taxpayer December 06, 2013 at 07:58 AM
Funny how our Patch Patriot took down all his posts?
